Goaltending has been talked to death on this board so i wont comment on that.
Picking 6-9 Im getting very excited of the idea of Dubois. We really dont need D as we have a lot of solid prospects coming up, so i disagree somewhat, Todd, we should look somewhat towards need on the wing.
Picking 2nd overall. Im good with either Finn. Puju has a better 200ft game and i believe will be the better, more rou ded player. He's more of a set up guy so maybe putting him with Bennett would be a great pairing. Laine would be awesome too because he is a pure goal scorer. The issue i have with Laine is that he seems to play a lot on the LW. Also, I've read rumblings of a possible locker room problem. Nothing substantiated, but maybe. Either way, though, getting one if those 2 would make me extremely happy. - TandA4Flames
You don not pick Puju over Laine at 2....Laine is just so good, |

I wonder what the Flames would offer Philly for Neuvirth? Mason is their number one and Neuvirth is way to good to be a back up. For the right price he might be just what the Flamws are looking for. - Slipperypickle

For a late second/early third I'd be pretty ok with trading for him. He's better than he's got credit for on this thread; just needs to stay healthy. Prime age goalie on a contract year for a low cap hit? Yes, please.
So damn tired of hearing about Freddy Andersen, Jimmy Howard, and James Reimer. All three are gonna ask for a lot (or in Jimmy's case already gets too much) and aren't particularly known for stealing games.
Ramo/Neuvirth signed for only next season sounds like a decent combo. Odds are they both face the odd injury throughout the season, which would provide Gillies with a few starts this season. |

So you're going to let Ortio walk? |

Hah I still wonder what all that drama was with not playing Ortio this year. Wouldn't be fair to put him through another season like that.
Wouldn't be the end of the world if we found him a team with a more stable goaltending situation and got a 2nd/3rd for him. BT seems pretty good for finding a team willing to give opportunity to a underutilized player and getting a decent pick/prospect in return. He's gotta be pretty sick of being the third string goalie. |

So you would rather acquire 2 goalies and trade Ortio. Why not just find a starter and keep Ortio as the back up so we can keep developing him? Why can't the Flames, in your world, be the team that provides a more stable environment? He showed enough last year to deserve that opportunity with us, IMO. |

I would say it starts and ends with Hartley. He clearly didn't have the Coach's trust this year and everyone seemed to be scratching their heads about it.
In my world, Ortio has fought for a consistent role on the Flames for a long time. He definitely deserves as many games as he can handle. I think it would be massively unfair if our Coach gives him the same treatment next season.
But yeah, is it that unreasonable to think we're gonna sign a starter, screw around with his development, and give him erratic starts next season? That's all we've done to this point. Wouldn't you rather see him find success somewhere that has a legit starter, a fresh slate with the coach, and he can take 35 games? |

I gotta agree with T&A, Ortio will be a cheap backend that would be worth the 25 games next year. We need a decent tender to play in front of him, not Ramo, he won't be ready. Totally understand we go a cheap option & make a play for our starter in a year when the expansion draft creates some opportunities. |

We'll see how Harts uses him. He got the sh*t end this year and he'll probably get the sh*t end next year.
We're definitely not disagreeing whether he's a cheap, good goalie. |

If Matt Murray continues as the guy in Pittsburgh do you think MAF could become available? |

Then don't sign 2 goalies and Hartley will be forced to play Ortio. Seems like a simple solution to me. |

What about Tyson Jost? He is tearing it up every where he goes, including the World U18 tourny.
Too bad Canada is getting spanked for the bronze medal currently 7-1 against USA
see game here http://stats.hockeycanada...=2381007&referrer=2381007 - zipfel
I agree Jost definitely deserves some interest in that range. Just started watching him and I've been impressed. He is committed to U of North Dakota next year so he may have the most optimal development path. 1 year of NCAA then pro experience in the AHL till he is ready for the show. |

Do you hear me singing my team praises?
I'm simply saying that you should not say that other organizations managements are crap and your going to take advantage of them....all teams have made some pretty bad moves and some good ones...
But there is no way your going to force them to take your crap offer and say thanks. - mbell

If no lotto win i like Dubois/Tkachuk for the Flames.
Freddie Andersen looks a good fit & can prolly be had.
From there its a great start. |

If there's anything we've learned from this past season; there is no such thing as "Hartley will be forced to play Ortio".

The Flames don't need 2 goalies....sign one to play with Ortio....and then if poop hits the fan call up Gillies.
Does McDonald have another year of junior or is he done? |

He's eligible to play in the AHL now. But there's been a bunch of speculation that the Flames may send him back to jr. for an overage year so that he gets a bunch of playing time as well as keeping the developmental path the same after Gillies injury. |
