As expected the Isles fan couldn't celebrate a series win without focusing on the Rangers, mostly new clueless fans

it's actually 8 years and 1.75 million cap hit next year as opposed to 5.5 million

I think very good chance he gets bought out

So Brooks is saying AV is staying for at leas another year.

Also just about every beat writer is writing how major roster changes are coming. Should be interesting

Problem is there is still signing bonus dollars involved. It's 1.75 next year, but then it jumps to 3.75 for a couple of years, then drops to 1.25 for the rest of the 8 years.

yep, I know, but, all of it is cheaper than 5.5 million the next 4 years and potentially being required to protect him because of his NMC in the expansion draft and having to expose a younger player.

We can keep Yandle for sure if we buyout Girardi. I did the math on it a few weeks ago and was actually able to get both Yandle and E Staal signed under the cap along with keeping all the RFAs, assuming the cap goes up the maximum it can, though it was a tight squeeze.

But at this point, I don't see E. Staal returning which only frees up more space for Yandle.

I'm still at a total loss since it feels like the window is closed for Lundqvist given the current state of this team and what they will need to be competitive.

I also don't currently like the idea of AV being around next year. Although it's the players job to get it done in game, it just seemed like he has no desire to make any real change until it's too late. I can't help but feel like he may have lost his players who were frustrated with his inability to adapt.

Didn't even think of the expansion draft impact. Yeah I guess it's a no brainier to buy out Girardi.

I don't think AV is getting fired, but I believe short leash next season, could make early to mid-season change like Pitt did this year if things start off poorly

It's a tough spot for him though, cause if they make a lot of roster moves can they actually expect AV to succeed quickly?

I think they can expect that

it was still a 101 point team no matter how bad they looked vs Pitt

in fact, if Pittsburgh sweeps through rest of playoffs we may be the last team that beats them

It's not a sure thing to buy G out. He is still good; just needs to get healthy and some rest. I think he'll be good to go by the start of next season and will be his good ol' self again.

Buying him out will put the Rangers at their version of good ol' Humptey. At least DiPietro couldn't play any more and surely needed to get bought out. Thus isn't the case with Girardi, IMO.

I just wonder if it makes more sense to wait a year before they buy him out. The expansion isn't happening this off season anyway. Maybe if he gets healthy and then minimize his minutes he'll be better off.

Thing is, this was just a rough year in general. A lot of guys took steps backwards entirely and some did it at times. Girardi was banged up all year it seemed and who knows what was up in the playoffs when he missed the three games. I think that next year you learn from this and one thing is for sure, he cannot play 70+ regular season games. He needs to be kept fresh for the playoffs. I'm very interested to see this offseason because Andrew Gross wrote an article saying that AV doesn't seem to be need McIlrath . He's an RFA too so it'll be interesting.

nobody is more sympathetic about Dan Girardi than me

they really can't handle his 5.5 million cap hit next year if he's a player who no longer can be counted on to play 82 games though

1.75 million cap hit next year if they buy him out, I think there is a huge chance they do it
