Benning on 1040, is saying pretty much everything that sane Canucks fans want to hear.

-willy back next year with all his staff (Sorry Dragon)
-if Markstrom outplays Miller, then he should get the starts
-if we select in the top 4, we are taking the BPA
-if we win the lottery, the only way we would trade down would be to the number 2 or 3 overall and the package would have to be "one hell of a offer"

- Codes1087

I thought the most telling comment was that he said BPA and forward but after that if the the forward and D were the same they take the D.

I'm speculating but it sounds like he views one of Tkachuk or Dubois as sure fire #4 and the other and one of the D ( chrychrun ?) as the next group.

I know he also mentioned he was watching Cape Breton ( Dubois) team live on his last trip.

Sounds like he's pretty high on Matthews if its going to take a "one hell of an offer" to move down just one or two spots

He back tracked a few weeks ago about picking a Dman. He said he made that comment back at TDL when they were drafting 10-12. He leans to forwards now in every interview.

I wonder if thats because he's more impressed with the forward prospects as the season has gone on, less impressed with the top defense prospects, or if he figures the depth of the draft will allow him to get similar value defense in the second or later rounds

I might be reaching but what I read into his latest interview was FWD at 4 and D at 5 unless hiis 4th ranked FWD is there.

I agree with your speculation. It sounds like his mind is made up if he is picking in the 4 and 5 spot while he takes a D at 6. I know he is scouting Dubois now but he is also very high on Tkachuc

I think that makes the most sense. If Edmonton is picking 4 and Van 5, you've got to imagine they are taking D, so he could hope for #4 forward being available. There is more uncertainty picking in the 5-6 slot he would need to make preparations for

Benning spun the wheel for 2 hours before bed the other night (draft simulator), did not get a top 3 pick ONCE. Said he was completely put off. The next day he tried again 10x and picked 1st overall 3x. Said he has more hope now

Just before I heard about this, I tried the simulator today for the very first time.

Spun it once.

Got: Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto

Couldn't believe it. I'm not touching that thing again; maybe we can lock that in somehow?

Its always a big offer to get the #1 from any position below it.

Good point.

I'd be looking at Anaheim's RFAs however.
