If I remember correctly, only reason Demko slipped to the 2nd round was because he needed hip surgery and there were questions about how he would recover and his mobility. Glad Benning took a shot at him, our goaltending future looks pretty good. I see a Demko jersey coming my way as well

I think this article sums it up why he went late. A recent trend against picking goalies in the first round is likely the only reason he was available to Vancouver where he was

You could see Miller off the books much sooner. he has 1 year left at 6 million but the Canucks would eat 1/2 of that to part with him and round one teams that went out due to shaky goaltending may bite.

But I think he has a no movement clause.
