You'd have to see Demko's progression, but the bigger question is that if Markstrom sees whats happening, how does he feel about signing short term in Van knowing they want Demko to be #1 soon vs going into free agency and taking a longer term deal there. His next contract should take him through his prime and does he just want to be a placeholder

I personally think he will continue along his current path and that kaptaan's 5 year would be the most likely.

The problem if you want to go 3 years, is that Markstrom can reject and sign elsewhere as a UFA and then you have no insurance policy in place (or worse, signing a 37 year old Miller ). With the max deals for own players being 8 years, 5 should give Markstrom the comfort for term and payday he is after taking him into his early 30's
