I believe facts yes. That being said, signing free agents or drafting i just want them to get the right players.
- JoeRussomanno

I personally don't think Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Coots, Ghost, and even raffl and Cousins on a lesser scale are the wrong players. the wrong players were Vinny, trading JVR for Schenn and ONLY because of his injury, Pronger......going for the unattainable in Parise, Suter and Weber. I like the core. now they need to build around it. they need to rebuild the defense

I think if Ghost can be paired with a brainiac on ice like Provorov, the sky is the limit. I used to think Ghost would be a Krug-like 4/5, and would've been happy at that. But his surprising defensive play, his uncanny reads, and off the chart instincts -- not to mention his offense -- lead me to think he will be a whole lot more. If Provorov is the 1a, I think it is Ghost who could end up 1b/2. He isn't just an offensive dynamo...the kid processes the game about as quickly as I've ever seen.
- Mononoke

Yeah hopefully Provorov makes the squad out of camp and one of Alt/Morin/Hagg gets call up duty and proves too valuable to be sent back down. The problem is what do the Flyers do with Streit and Schultz?

One assist in three games yea you're right he's scoring glad he's face of the franchise... Silly me i'll shut and accept being told it's raining when i'm being pissed on for another five years by another former player now gm! Awesome!!! How's that annie somg go? Tomorrow tomorrow i love you tomorrow
- JoeRussomanno

its awesome how you are forgetting the previous 60 playoff games where he was slightly above one point per game. but hey he has no help and is being keyed on and is obviously either hurt or just spent based on all of the maintenance days and in 3 games he has 1 point. He sucks. I don't get some people. I am not going to be one of those you never played the game people but seriously I just don't get people. is he above criticism? of course not. but to say the guy hasn't been among the best players over the last 5 yrs or so is just ridiculous. give the guy some god damned help.

this team isn't deep to start with and losing a player like Coots is just critical.

You might wanna back up there chief... Holmgren said "we're a different team, but I like our team" after the trades in summer 2011... 5 years ago.
- JoeRussomanno

They had a pre eye injured, PCS Pronger and a still decent couple years of Timmo, but let's not let that factor in

Without disparaging the players I do wonder if it's the right "mix" of players. I don't think they have the best wingers for Coots to be the best 2C he can be. I also think in general they need to add more size up front. For as gritty as we know Simmonds is and for how good he is on the boards he is somewhat often worked off pucks in the open ice. Jake has been very inconsistent this year as well in regards to using his size to his advantage.

Defense is coming along great prospect wise. We have one of the best goalie pools in the league. Our wingers, both prospect and NHL combined, have a lot of promise.

I see one gigantic hole in this organization, and it is at center. Giroux and Couturier are great, but after them? Cousins and Vorobyov? One is a probable 4C; the other has potential but is a complete wild card. And G, who is still elite, isn't getting younger. His prime years are coming to a close sooner rather than later. Flyers need to find a high end center prospect. I'd try to trade up within reason this year tbh. It's a big big hole.

Reminded me a bit of the Randy Jones hit on Patrice Bergeron, who was really hurt.
Not innocent but not really intent to injure

- Marc D

Totally agree. If Randy Jones was anything special, the Bruins would probably still hate gim but I doubt they even remember him.

However, Randy Jones looks like a 9 time All-Star next to Brandon Manning.

THIS YEAR's playoffs. So maybe he's cooked, maybe he's injured, maybe they have fewer options than they've had around him in his career. But don't talk like he's 0 for 5 playoff runs. Prior to this year he was more than a point per game player. This could be a perfect bad storm. Or he may suck. I suspect from the evidence, he does not suck.

ETA: Or maybe playing the PK really was more ice than you should expect from your #1 center and #1 PP QB

- bodiva88

I agree. The problem is, sports is a 'What have you done for me lately?' business. Sure, you were good last year, and the year before, but now you're a year older, and that alone is going to start to slow you down, but add an additional year's worth of bumps and bruises, wear and tear, and sooner rather than later you aren't the player you used to be. G is just this side of that magical 30.

Look at Matt Read for example. What happened to that player from 1 year to the next?

Is G done because of one lackluster playoff performance after the grind this team went through just to get into the playoffs? Very doubtful. But for the money he's making, the tier of player that sets him among, having a hint of concern taking shape isn't unreasonable.

And I agree, no way G should be out on the PK, not only getting run down but also risking injury. PEB, VDV, Raffl, Read, White, Cousins, Couts and Laughton...those are the guys I'm using.

I don't view Laughton as a center. Didn't when he was a center either. People can say he needs "time" or "growth," but I just don't see it. The hockey iq requisite is lacking. He has trouble controlling the game with and without the puck, in all zones. He strikes me as a trigger man winger. Fazleev plays wing and center I believe. But again, I really like him, but he's a bottom 6 player. Include him if you want. It is still a woefully thin pool.

It would be such a Philadelphia thing to have Umberger play, Tear up his knee and be out for 6 months thusly eliminating the opportunity to buy him out. then followed by the NHL having the expansion draft on 6/20/17 and making teams protect all players with NMC. Because we are Philadelphia.

I think I'd play McDonald

Justin Abdelkader. What do you guys think of him right now? Frankly I'm sick of listening to Detroit defend him right now.

Its funny because the one area the flyers were always deep and always drafted well was center but they've drafted so heavy on defense recently and now they are short at forward/center.

I love what Cousins brings but realistically is he a 3rd line center on a contender? Highly unlikely. have to think he is more slotted as a 4th liner.

The Flyers could always trade a defensive prospect for a forward. I think this becomes more likely, if the BPA when the Flyers draft this year happens to be another defenseman.

The Flyers are so deep in so many areas prospect wise, I think if they want to, they can take a chance on trading up. Their quantity is terrific in many positions. They need quality at center, and they need it bad. I'm a big stockpile picks person, but they're in a good position with that. There are a couple just out of their range that are bpa and need. It's worth it in my mind if they believe in the player.

Seems like most ratings have the 13-20 range being mostly forwards

Me too. I thought what Abdelkader did at the end of game two was gutless. I'm pretty sure Boyle isn't tough anyway but Abdelkader is lucky his hands were taped at the end of game 3.

What do you guys think of that last night? Simmonds and our announcer had to ask the crowd to cool it. Detroit Sports Radio was just bashing Philly today. It was Ed Snider Night. I think one of those wrist bands hit the injured player on the ice.

Flyers need to make some changes in the off season

Out: Gagner, Read, Streit, Cousins, Medvedev

In: 2nd line LW, Konecny and 1 speedy 3rd line C

Keep Umberger. I am not sold on a buyout. I mean why buy him out and keep a 1.5 cap hit the year after? Not convinced that the space will be worth it next season.

My lineup:

Voracek - G - Simmonds
Erikkson - Couturier - Schenn
M.Raymond - Raffl - Konecny
VDV - PEB - White

AMac - Ghost
MDZ - Shultz
Gudas - Manning

Mason
Neuvirth

That leaves the option of a D prospect taking over a full time spot.
