Would've given him a game, maybe two

I do think Orlov needs to take the hit that's coming -- he put himself in a bad position by trying to not take the hit into the boards, IMO

- AllInForFlyers

I thought he tried to stop but when PEB's weight road into him he lost his balance and went down. I'm not sure that if he didn't touch him he wouldn't have fallen anyway. No head first into the boards but i thought he was going down on his own.

I'm okay with the game. I think everyone should be.

See, this is what I saw and thought it might get Bellemare fewer games:

“If you watch this really closely, Pierre-Edouard is going in on the forecheck to battle hard for the puck,” Hextall explained. “He’s got one hand on the stick. There’s no cross-check. There’s no nothing.
“If you look closely, there’s no force that he applies. What happened was, Orlov stops, or put on the brakes, and Belly’s momentum goes into him and propels him into the boards. So, it’s that Belly’s responsibility, or is it the defenceman’s responsibility?
“What do you do when a guy slams on the brakes and lowers his body and is propelled into the boards? Again, is it Belly’s fault or is it the defenceman’s fault?"

Think the DPS explainer video summed it up pretty well.

Now, imagine if Orlov had stayed down on that hit after his head went into the boards... PEB would be looking at a lot longer than 1-game.

Easy target for these Jack a napes

4th liner on a doomed team

Lost respect when Weber got nothing for his transgression a few years ago

G is playing hurt, Bill alluded to it in his blog earlier.
Sometimes you have to credit the other team too. Caps D has been very solid

None of this is directed at you my friend.

It's so ridiculous I mean the caps player had the balls to put the brakes on right before he would've crashed into the boards!

It's a nasty play, intent or not. One game is fine, but would've been ok with a longer suspension. Honestly, that's the kind of play where a guy could potentially be paralyzed.

I found it, thanks.

Not surprised that he's injured. Not sure if his faceoff % has dipped. Would be surprising if it was wrist/arm related if his faceoffs were still among the league's best.

I'm not saying that Bellemare had to hit him, but Orlov knew he was on him and had to know he was going to get hit

Again: I'm not excusing the fact that Bellemare got him in the numbers

But once upon a time, you had a choice when a guy was on you: You take the hit into the boards or you pull out and turned

Orlov trying to stop put himself in a tough position -- again, not exonerating Bellemare. But JFC, is Bellemare just supposed to let the Caps get the puck and skate it out?

Orlov bailed on the hit he knew was coming -- Bellemare should have been careful to not get him in the numbers, but to me, Orlov can't try to stop there

Reminded me a bit of the Randy Jones hit on Patrice Bergeron, who was really hurt.
Not innocent but not really intent to injure

I remember that

I just remember a time in this game where you were also expected to protect yourself. Bellemare should have been really careful to not track him quite as hard as he did from behind, but damn. Orlov heads straight for the boards, then tries to stop against a forecheck he knew was coming

Once upon a time in this sport, defensemen would not have put themselves in that position. They just didn't do it

I get this argument but to answer your question yes. He won the race to the puck. Either figure out another way to get it once he's no longer vulnerable or win the race in the first place

Bill, what's your take on Nichuskin? He's a kid I think that could come in here and be a real nice fit. Size and skill is something we're sorely lacking on the wing. I do have to say though, I thought he would have some better offsenive numbers by now tbh. People were raving about him prior to the draft. Is it a usage thing? Or is he largely still a work in progress?
