Why does there need to be "secondary scoring" for giroux to score when he's on the ice? He's paid to be a dominant player but he isn't and that's a problem, don't know why this is so hard to grasp. The pplwho put together team canada think likewise.
- JoeRussomanno

Giroux does score when he is on the ice.

However, the reason secondary scoring is important is because of matchups. Giroux has to face the toughest competition in the league, and has to basicially score more than a point per game in order to get respect.

Oh wait, he has done that for most of his career and still doesn't get respect.

If we have a second & (more importantly) third line who can provide offense, it opens Giroux up to do so much more.

You're delusional.
- JoeRussomanno

I think you're delusional if you think Streit hasn't provided good value for his contract so far with 119 points in 225 games. And it's structured in such a way to make his last year appealing to cap floor teams like Arizona.

Losing MDZ to injury has meant he's had to play more minutes and harder minutes than was ideal, but he's still hanging in there even when he's obviously not at full strength.

Listen, if you don't understand the game of hockey then dont comment about it with as much conviction as you do. There isn't a single sport that relies more on your teammates than hockey and if you dont get that there is no point discussing this.

Ovechkin must score all his goals by himself too

You have to admire the way certain posters move seamlessly from months of saying the team won't make the playoffs because it sucks and the captain's no good, to, the team can't win in the playoffs because it sucks and the captain's no good.

So a mere two years ago Ovie was a -35 and everyone thought he was done. Now at age 30, he is the captain of the best team in hockey. I think it is a tad bit premature to throw G under the bus.

Why can't Konency or Lindblom become the Kuznetsov? Still looking forward to seeing how this story plays out.

He looks slower and has had some glaring miscues, but his shot-suppression #'s have been pretty solid this series despite seeing tough assignments. The part that's really fallen off is his ability to do anything offensively at evens.
- Tomahawk

Maybe his assignments have changed and it's hurting his offense?

The slower part looks obvious to me, though. Maybe not all the way back from the horrible injury he had? His age is obviously a factor too, I suppose.

Had no idea about his shot suppression numbers, tho. That's at least something.

I believe this is why he has made the playoffs and won a Cup every year he's been in the league. I haven't checked that for sure, but I'll just assume I'm correct to save time.

Worth remembering that they managed this run at the end of the regular season without MDZ, who was, arguably, their most complete defenseman this year before he got hurt.

And that youth movement went to the playoffs and won a series...you are misguided in your direction of blame for the playoff futility. how can you seriously look at everything that has unfolded since then and try to stake the blame on the few core players that have actually produced and done something at an above average rate. I dont get it one bit. Who cares if they had a good team with bad goaltending or a bad team with good goaltending. It all adds up to something and the result hasnt been great. The entire team needs to develop together which is what is happening now, instead of trading for Pavel Kubina at a stupid chance to win a playoff game.

You are so biased in your thinking. The previous teams which had Carter and Richards did it WITH THE HELP of Giroux and the "younger players" Please tell me who is helping Giroux and Voracek now? Seriously? For two years there was absolutely ZERO secondary scoring. They have been carrying this team out of the cellar along with Mason for years now and you cant appreciate that. You need to look past the fact that they "havent won a series since 2012" because two players cannot win you a playoff series.

In that same time frame the Penguins have won 3 series and 0 cups...with 2 of the best players in the world getting paid MORE than G and Jake (a lot more over that time) and an elite defenseman. People need to stop watching a hockey game and then venting about every single thing they come up with in their head
