I wouild remind every person here that uses a credit card and doesn't pay it off every month that you too have things you cannot afford.
- bodiva88

Story of my life.

Maxed out credit cards. Bought the wife a newer used car. It was totaled 6 days later. Health Insurance deductive at 7,000$, preventing me from saving money and taking care if the wife and child. I make 45k a year. 10k goes to insurance premiums and deductibles. Went from no deductible to massive deductible because my insurance didn't meet requirements of the ACA. Such bullpoop.

What is an ACCESS card and how does it work? Is it like reloadable food stamps?
- jmatchett383

Yea, its an EBT card that welfare recipients are supposed to use for groceries and such.. Unfortunately they get used for much more than just that.

Systems get abused no matter what.

The leafs are starting to build it correctly, but I'm pretty sure that with the prospects we have and the mass amount of picks we have this draft were on the path as well. I'm not sure about the core either, but I suspect that if we don't surround the forwards with 4th liners and d prospects with guys better slotted in the 5 6 hole, we'd see a better result. No guarantees, but I believe that's the plan

I'll also note that the pp and pk have me worried.

- Hextall271

I'd say we shouldn't consider ourselves in such better shape than the Leafs. They may be the worst team in the league this year but in 5 years we could easily be right where we are now looking up at them.

I think Hextall can get us there but he has more work ahead of him than I think most Flyer fans know.

We also need to let Hakstol hire a new staff this season coming.

The Coyotes just bought the Springfield AHL team and are moving them down here to Tucson. There is one sheet of ice in town that the University Of Arizona uses, and my men's league uses for 10 games a year. I'm really hoping that with the arrival of the AHL team, my men's league doesn't get pushed out.

I'll honestly have to start looking for somewhere else to live.

- FloHaake

You might just be able to tryout for Springfield/Tuscon

btw do they offer discounts on the Hyundai Tucson in Tucson?

In 5 years we could be the worst team in the league, or we could have a Cup. No way of predicting the future, but last place is about the last thing we project to be in 5 years.

At one of my college jobs, my manager always had super nice clothes, wore tons of expensive jewelry (from how he talked about it, I'm no appraiser), and was driving a brand new Lexus. A coworker of mine went to his house and said it was small, cramped, and more or less low income housing.

I'm not saying that you can't have nice things, we all do to an extent. It just seems that some people are more concerned with their outward appearance and luxuries when that money could be spent other ways. Everyone has different priorities.

I almost got into a fight with a guy at a deli a few years back...

Ordered a bunch of lunch meat and cheese, and while they were cutting I shopped around for other stuff....

Some scummer with a cigarette tucked behind his ear approaches me and says " Hey just heard you order. Are you paying in cash?"

Totally caught me off guard so I hesitantly answered "I dont know. Why?"

He told me that he would let me use his ACCESS card if I gave him $30 cash.

I blew my lid. In front of about 20 people loudly told him to get lost. Told the manager that he was trying to get cash in exchange for using his ACCESS card.

Something like 50 billion in fraud every year. You can sell your ebt card for roughly 55-65% the amount on it. I know people I've worked with that have separated from their wives in order to do it but not really leave the wife.

In viewing how last night's moment of silence for Mr. Snider went (or how most of these things go at a sporting events in general), I think the teams would be better advised to do a "minute of applause" (similar to how they do in european soccer games) rather than a "moment of silence" for these situations going forward. Of course, if the passing is some kind of tragic, untimely or unexpected (i.e. Tertyshyny or Pelle situation) then moment is silence would be more appropriate, but in a case of someone like Mr. Snider who's lived a full life with a great legacy, I think a minute of applause would have expressed our sentiments toward the man just as well. Not to mention the added benefit of drowning out the idiots.

I used to drive 52 miles (one way) in a beat up old Dodge Stratus that didnt have AC or heat, and had a sunroof that leaked profusely.

Part of my journey to work I would take 291 (through Chester) into Delaware. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I questioned my life while driving through there. Porsche's, BMW's, Cadillac's, fancy street bikes parked on lawns.... All in run down neighborhood...

Yet here I am chugging along in my hooptie...

Well, a leak-proof roof would be nice, but my feeling is that if a car gets you from Point A to Point B (and occasionally to Point C) and does so reliably, it's a fine car. I drive a 2005 Civic and, although it's starting to give me some crap, it does the job just fine after 225,000 miles.

I was saying we could continue to be a bubble team. Even after sitting through 2007 I find it hard to believe this team could ever be that bad again.

I hear Maricopa is nice. Honestly, if you're not attending U of A, in the witness protection plan or just waiting to die, why does anyone live in Tucson?

I'm paying off student loans at 9%, 7%, 6%, etc. And a mortgage. And a car loan. I also like having a new, top-of-the-line phone every 2 years or so. Because...... you need regular distractions from the rat-race and the responsibilities of life/work. If, at the end of the day, you're keeping up your end of the bargain; who cares. You will likely end up living more comfortably and probably a happier life than those who chose to spend foolishly. That's the "even-ing out" at the end of it all.

I ride a bike Sun shines every day, who needs a car?

I'm gonna give it a shot. I'll start training now, perhaps when tryouts come I'll only be laughed off the ice instead of carried off on a stretcher.

There's no way Streit is trade-able - at all. The way he's regressed this season, his injuries, um hello - his AGE and his contract. He's basically a PP specialist that isn't that special anymore. I respect the experience and the years of service but he's more of a hinder than a help at this point (next season as well). Same goes for Schultz IMO although Schultz's contract isn't as gnarly as Streit's and Schultz can still do some nice yeoman's defensive work in front of the net, clearing the slot, bodying people and of course blocking shots.

Puck retrieval, speed, passing, knowing when to pinch and effectively doing so, actually getting pucks through and on goal - etc. These are the elements that the Flyers need. It also helps inject some offense to the their forward corps.
