i think our time frame for trading read for anything remotely substantial has passed. unfortunate because a year or so ago he could have been worth something
EDIT: having to shop him vs. him being a hidden gem that teams ask about and try to pluck from our lineup was something i was hoping to avoid |

So it would be a slap in the face to switch goalies?
You say the only reason for the Flyers being here is do to Mason?
I remember when Neuvirth was the goalie keeping the Flyers alive early in the reason when Mason wasn't so stellar.
Both goalies have had a part in trying to keep the Flyers in this hunt. I don't worry about slaps in the face. This is a professional sport.
Also I have said this isn't all on Mason or even the bad goal. - J35Bacher
I'm a huge Neuvirth fan. Yet, he has barely played in weeks. Putting a guy in a game 3, which is about as much a must win as you can get, would be a mistake IMO.
And you are correct, both goalies did their part during the year. However, Mason has been the better of the two since the second half of the year. That, coupled with the fact that Neuvy has been hurt and hasn't played, I wouldn't make a switch.

I wouldn't dismiss what Neuvirth did for the team in the first half of the season. He helped turn a slow start around. |

yeah im not against putting in neuvy if we lose this game or go down 3-0 quick but it does concern me that he hasn't exactly been game ready.
id like to have both goalies next year for another 82 games of battling for #1

I love this.
Our first line hasn't done anything.
Mason gave up a 100 ft goal
our PP has done nothing
And it's Mannings fault.
I think Manning has played well. He's been better then Streit and MacDonald. Has actually pushed the puck offensively.

Exactly what teams are doing to Giroux and Gostisbehere.
I would almost look to put Streit at the top of the umbrella and place Gositsbehere in Voracek's spot. See if you can open up the PK box and maybe Streit can get some shots through or open space for Gostisbehere - J35Bacher
I suggested this towards the end of the regular season, but I guess Hakbot doesn't think it's a good idea. Seems fairly logical to me. Might free Jake up a little, being on the 2nd unit too. PP needs to cash in or this series is over. That's the main are the Caps are beating the Flyers...special teams! |

I understand, worrying about Manning is like concerning yourself with a hangnail when your throat has been slashed. That said, Manning has taken two bad penalties that have led to goals. I'd put Medvedev in and let him play a game and see how he does. |

Why are we talking about swapping goalies when they have scored 1 goal in two games?

1. Flyers arent supposed to make playoffs, ooo we are excited they made playoffs, omg they are the worst team in the league for getting owned by the best team in the league and currently the best goalie in the world.
2. Must have whipping boy to take blame. |

Just trying to play catch-up here. From what I've seen, these are the keys to the game:
1. Make sure Ovechkin falls down (because nothing says neutralizing an elite talent like making sure he falls down once on a really cool, big hit).
2. Sit Mason, your best player to date in the series, for Neuvirth, who played in a rusty game against the Islanders Jr.
3. Brandon Manning again!!!
I'm sure most people in here realize, but just in case. The primary reason we are losing this series is special teams play. It's how they got on the board in game 1 (and never looked back). It's how they got on the board in game 2. It's how Ovechkin took the wind out of the Flyers' sails to make it 3-1. Conversely, the Flyers are 0-8 on the powerplay.
These other "talking points" that people want to bring up are the same things that were brought up in the regular season. Yet the team persevered through them and they were non-issues. Look no further than to the special teams to wonder why we aren't winning. A 7-game series results in players having lulls and spikes in their play. It's magnified when you're down 2-0 and can barely register a point against a Vezina-caliber goalie, but the point remains.
The Flyers had sustained periods of pressure during Game 2. No reason to think that bringing the series to Philly (and its' atmosphere) couldn't help with that. Win one tonight and suddenly, it doesn't seem impossible to tie it up at 2 and make it a 3-game series. |

With Colin McDonald being recalled does he go in and if so where? I'd think about it for Read.
I might also go for a tweak in the top 2 lines. Jake for Raffl.
Raffl-Giroux-Simmonds
Voracek- Schenn-Gagner
Laughton-Cousins-McDonald
The Untouchables as 4th
D pairs I'd think about
Streit - Schultz
MacDonald/Manning-Ghost
Gudas - Medvedev
and stick with Mason in net.

One thing I do disagree with is once the playoffs were obtained expectations do change.
I am not saying they should be running over everyone and raising the cup. But the star players should be playing to the level. The 4th line shouldn't be the best line.
Streit has done nothing. Read nothing. 1st line nothing. 1st PP nothing. Even the bad goal. While a total gaffe, that is unacceptable in the playoffs.
I understand Washington is talented and deep. But the Flyers aren't doing the things that led to success. I am more disappointed in that. |

Manning took the delay of game penalty in game one, and the holding the stick penalty in game 2. Resulting in two Caps PP goals. |

Said it to a coworker today. The bad goal by Mase might have had 2 reasons.
1) He has been forced to be so focused in games so far he just brain dead played what should have been a gimmie. Those happen often and he just chose one of the worst times to do it.
2) That split save tweaked something in lower body and when he went butterfly for that gimmie. It caused a twinge and he pulled the stick away in reflex reaction.
Not sure either of these is the real reason but both are possibles. |
