Funny thing is no one had said Mason is the problem on here.
I only suggested change to a goalie who also played well for this team and maybe some momentum, using the Redwings as example. - J35Bacher
In the Red Wings case, Howard wasn't really playing well, plus Mrazek is the better goalie-he just struggled down the stretch.
I think the issue with the Flyers is more undisciplined play than momentum. They're suffering from defensive breakdowns and not really generating a ton of secondary scoring chances. When the Capitals have shut down Gostisbehere & Giroux on the PP, the other 3 guys have failed to step up and compensate.
I just don't see it as a momentum issue as much as a return to disciplined play and doing a better job of getting to the net and get second chances on rebounds.
Let's face it, the only Flyer goal came because Schenn drew the defense away and Voracek slipped a shot under a moving Holtby. You let him get set and face no scramble situations, he's not going to allow many goals. |

its pretty simple, the Caps are a much better team. They won two games at home. They did what they are supposed to. This series was a hurclean task to begin with, add the Couturier injury and it's basically impossible. I'd love to see them play an emotional high energy game tonight and get a win. |

I think the rule is that he can only join the team if they're in the act of bringing back two additional players. So Round 2 with Coots and MDZ is his only opportunity. |

At this point, yeah -- sometimes you just have to acknowledge where you are.
Some people are talking like we're the Blues or Pens, who are built to win now.
Our coach was in freaking North Dakota at this time last year.
Our best defenseman is a rookie. Our second-best defenseman is 38 years old and declining, or a bruising defensive defenseman, take your pick.
Our fourth line is a guy from France, a waiver pickup from the worst franchise in hockey over the last decade and Ryan White.
Our third line is two rookies and a former college free agent.
I am happy as hell this team made the playoffs. It's one of the biggest accomplishments I've seen of late, because they play hard, adhere to the system, and the rookie defenseman was phenomenal.
Why does it always have to be misery when you don't win? Sometimes, there is no miracle -- they are giving the requisite effort to win, they haven't lost a home game yet.
It's not always pitchforks and public executions - AllInForFlyers
I just wanted them to win a game in all honesty along with not embarrassing themselves. I thought the second and third period of the first game was pretty embarrassing but they came back in game two and really pressed. Couldn't score but they played tough the whole game. Several gaffes get corrected and it's 1-0 late into the third but it wasn't.
They haven't gotten blown out yet so making the playoffs seems like it could be a benefit.
Let's move up in the draft and find ourselves a sniper in the first. |

Correct. The even up was terrible. But Simmonds put the ref in a position to do it by even going over to Wilson. Also Wilson was smart. With 7 minutes left about he was able to take Simmonds off the ice for about the rest of the game even if they didn't call the roughing. - J35Bacher
No doubt. Very smart play by Wilson, one we'd all appreciate from someone on the Flyers. |

Imho, Mason and Neuvirth are virtually the same, Neuvirth just "struggled" down the stretch. |

They will love me when I say I don't want to resign him.
He is probably looking at a 6 million type cap hit on next deal. |

On the S2TP scale, Mason is 8.7 and Neuvirth is 7.3

Their numbers over the last few years don't agree.
I'm not knocking Neuvirth, because I think he's a good goalie, but Mason has been a very good to outstanding goalie for 3 years or so-pretty much since he arrived in Philly. |

I'm not willing to commit to him for 7 years given the fact that he can't seem to stay on the ice now. What's that 12 mil a yr going to look like sitting in the press box in 2020-2023.
People thought Vinny was eating up space.
