I think our need for a 1st line center exceeds our need for a top line winger. At this point anyway with the aging Sedins (in particular Henrik at center ice).

Link / Proof ?

Matthews, from what I have seen, is the clear cut number 1 and the consensus amongst the professionals.

Same place that said Jensen was playing in Europe this season.

certainly a #1 center is a premium position. No doubt. No argument with that at all.

So is a winger with HIS skill set. You dont this very often.

We do have a lot of wingers with talent.....but we have none with what he brings. Both are organizational needs, so which do you pick? Laine is the better player imo.
We'd be better off with either really. I do tend to like laines style of play and skill set better though. Its certainly more exciting too.

But either way.

I have always said he is good with upcoming talent. Probably the best here at that single thing. Not others so much but that 1 thing in particular. Everyone has a certain skill or eye for an aspect of the game. That's his.

give credit where its due.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Laine went 1st overall.

its been said for awhile now that laine is coming on lately and could become the #1. So only 1 so far has done so, he is gained momentum.

Doesnt matter. Still feel he is BPA from watching tape and MAY BE the best for our team

You're killing me!! Do you do 2 shows on Saturday?

I think what rubs people the wrong way, is what gives YOU the say on who is better than others regarding talent analysis? I don't think one person on here can evaluate talent better than the other without some sort of relative experience as a scout. I think this is why this has blown up into what it is. I think picking a consensus #3 (recently ranked #2) as a "clear cut" better player than Matthews also discredits your statement as the majority of the professionals are all stating something different. Either way, I think maybe you just rubbed people the wrong way with your posts, and you came across a bit arrogant.

All a moot point. No matter who wins the lottery, they will select Matthews. And to say that Laine is more exciting, I am not really sure how much of either you have actually seen....a game or two at the WJC?

Matthews projects out as Eichel +. Everywhere he followed him he put up better goal scoring stats and better overall stats. Teams can't build around wingers. They never have. The Canucks don't have anything at C OR the wings....the deal is that they would never pass up on a potential first line C in a case like this. Never.

Its not so far fetched. I said in the last blog that it is almost a toss up for me but I would still take Mathews. Laine is the clear#2 choice over PJ.

point was that I said i thought laine was the best player of the 3 and got laughed at for it....now he's projected as the #1 .....
So for those that felt it was arrogant its just my laughing back at those who were quick to laugh 1st. Nothing more.

Perhaps it should have been worded as.....so dont be quick to make assumptions and laugh at stuff, it might come back on you and make YOU look bad

- SMBDragon

Doesn't matter what this one draft assessor says, Mathews will go number one. All this guy is doing is rating Laine higher and I don't think he thinks any GM will pick Laine ahead of Mathews. But what you could do is come back to the board in 10 years and laugh at everyone when Laine has had a better career.

If Benning signs the goalie from PG then Demko is available at the draft for sure.
If the Oilers don't end up with the top pick, would they send their 2nd or third or fourth overall pick to us in exchange for Demko? I would do it even if the Oilers wanted our 2nd rounder thrown in too. That would be our way of landing the two Finns.

So essentially what you are throwing out there is:

Oilers: 1st round pick (#2-4 overall) For Canucks: Demko plus Canucks 2nd (33 overall)?
