What is your point? A player's value and potential is strictly based off draft number?

Subban
Keith
Josi
Weber

Draft position doesn't matter. Schneider is an elite goaltender taken late in the 1st, right now he is worth more than a top 5 pick.

Demko right now is not equivalent to Schneider right now. I am not sure but I think the last top 5 goalie taken was MAF for Pitts. Goalies can grow into top 5 picks but are rarely selected there in their first two years

Of course he is not. He just completed his first year of pro with elite numbers. How that translates to the NHL is unknown but you cannot discredit his numbers in his first year.

Price was top 5?

I still don't understand what you are saying. So because Demko is viewed more as a developed goalie, we should sell him off now while his value and potential is thought to be super high? I am not following the logic?

Regardless.

It was a hypothetical question that more than likely does not require debate. Demko should have some sort of announcement today regarding his future (given what his dad is informing the media).

You know there will be at least one surprise at the draft.

No doubt, watch the Flames draft Mcload regardless of a lottery win or not.

Varlamov was the highest drafted last goalie in 2006 . Price was 2005.

The question was would you trade Demko for a top 5.

My answer is in a heartbeat. Right now Demko even with the insight we have now on him would not be drafted this year higher than 25 th. Look at Malcolm Subban and Markstrom what they had to go through and are going through to get a chance. It took Schneider 8 years to become a number 1 . Demko is at the beginning of showing he can be a top goalie. Long road ahead

The more I see and read from a variety of sources, the more I kind of hope we pick second and take Laine.

15 days till xmas...

I've been saying for a bit that If we got a (future) superstar like Laine, BoHO could be a #1 center as he is good int he faceoff dot, defensively responsible and can play at a higher level. He just isn't the guy that elevates the rest of the line.

Superstar

He has 17 goals in the finish men's league. I know he is young and very good but superstar may be a little strong

well.....Ive been saying for awhile now laine to me is the best player in this draft IMO. Vantel also has wanted laine.
Funny though, Vantel and I were also both the only people who knew who tryamkin was the last 2 years. And he's clearly the real deal.

Maybe more should listen to us on talent assesment and not so much what scouts say.....case in point, as of today how would tryamkin NOT go in the 1st round instead of 3rd.....

Sorry, Elite level player. I think Laine and Matthews both have what it takes to be a superstar someday in this league.

That was part of my argument too when people were picking Laine over Matthews. Swiss A is generally perceived as a better league and Matthews outproduced him from there. I think from this draft only Matthews has a chance at "superstar" potential (but unlikely, he isnt McJesus/Sid/Ovi), but Laine still has the capability of being a regular all star and top winger

I did not like that post at all. I am not a talent scout in any form. Just an average Joe talking poop with my buds.

But didnt the scouts draft Tyamkin and not you two?

Also lets dial it back a bit. Tryamkin cracked the 2016 Canuck line up, a line up which had to chose between him and the likes of Weber and Biega. He didnt dominate, he got beat a few times but shown good potential for a rookie. I dont know if he would be a first rounder still, but maybe higher than he was taken. Its still early and defenseman can regress. Being taken a little later, that sort of thing happens all the time though

I'm pretty sure you've also said if given the chance to pick first, you would take Matthews

He would have been a 1st if he wasn't Russian. No one knew if he would leave Russia.
