Washington is so good at taking away space and forechecking they make other teams make mistakes. Really good team this year. Philadelphia is outmatched.
San Jose and LA are both very evenly matched. This series will come down to special teams and I think San Jose has the advantage unless Quick and Doughty take this series over which is entirely possible.
Florida and NYI too much space given away by both teams. Game 1 showed me this series could go either way with suspect goaltending and extra space. It was the Tavares show in game 1. Game 2 could really change the out look of this series.
Dallas...Look out. This is a strong well build team. At times it seems they do all the little things right. This team is legit and could be a true contender. - thundachunk
Washington looks deeper than I've ever seen them, good on so many levels right now! |

Sedins are not elite? - thundachunk
Well not now...
In reality they never got the respect they deserved, in those 3-4 years where they were Art Ross winners they were fantastic, but I mean individually they were and are not dominant players. Individually they fall in the "really good" category, while insanely smart, for me. In those peak years though, if I could have had two guys, I would have had them over 99% of the players out there, including Crosby/Malkin duo |

They used to be, they definitely are not any more. One had 50 some points the other had 60 some points this year....those are not elite numbers. |

Yes there's some young players but they're not developed enough to be competitive, they'll need more and more of the higher talent level to succeed.
I agree, as you know, players like Higgins and Burrows need to go, but they have changed out a lot of players in the past two years.
At the end of the day it's gonna be current and future youth that'll take the club back to the playoffs IMO. They just don't have enough talent in between the Sedins and the Horvat's. - LeftCoaster
They have changed a lot in the last few seasons, but this one is going to be even bigger.
I honestly would cut back a tad on the youth and send JV and JM to develop properly on the Comets. Let's them get high end minutes for two years until the twins move on.
I would also try to shake up the D . I hope Benning is working those phones to upgrade with a trade. |

I think it all depends on which direction they are going with the team. Playoff push, then they need JV, and probably need JM in the lineup. As much as it would help to give them 15+ minutes per night, the replacements for them do not look very promising at this point. If they are going rebuild, do what the Leafs did with Nylander and park the kids down there all year and you can let Burrows and Higgins plug the lineup instead of buying out contracts |

It's a process, this isn't going to be turned around quickly. I agree that McCann should be in the AHL next year, he needs the development. I like Jake with the big club though, him playing on the third line RW and bringing that physicality is something the team needs.
Horvat needs to be better, Sutter is NOT a great number two center, although I like him, he's more like a highend third line center.
Bottom line is they just need better players in the organization to really compete for a Cup. |

If you are gonna do that then let Burrows play. You can't say play youth in one sentence and then say send them down. Learn from the best. They had decent minutes considering their age. Players were throw to the wolves this season. I think they will be better with a heathy team. JM will come to camp a good 15 pounds heavier with the right off season program. Jake's role is too valuable to send away. Come to camp earn a spot. |

Would you really chose Burrows over a guy like Martin or McGinn? With all the buy out talk I doubt the Canucks are looking including Alex in the roster.
Forget what we want , Aquillini has probably told Trevor and Jim you have twenty mil in cap space get me a playoff team |

You have to come to camp and make the team. I don't think Higgins does nor Etem nor Guance nor Rodin. Burrows is a bubble player also. That leaves 10. JM could go down a season. Jake will make the team and the rest will be on the opening roster. Thats 8 by my count and I say that because we could be picking 6th then our draft pick will not be in the line up. |

Benning has said a few weeks back he will give Etem a contract.
Higgins will probably be waived . Why spend Salary two years.
Burrows will be bough out.

No but NYI has the space for Martin and McGinn is a long shot imo. I don't disagree with the playoff mentality. It should be your goal every season good or bad. It is about winning games. Here is 20 million go win some f@cking games. |

I have a feeling that management think too highly of Burrows and want him around for his leadership and mentorship. I hope he is bought out, as I think his time has kind of expired as a Canuck, but I really didn't feel that management is going in that direction. |

Higgins is more likely a buyout candidate with a 2.5 million dollar salary, Burrows is a likely trade candidate to a floor team with 4.5 cap but only 3 million salary. |

The classy thing to do would be to buy out Higgins so he gets a shot on another team. I believe he would do well given a fresh start. |

This leadership / mentoship is a lot of stupidsh1t. This is a great example of too many cooks spoiling the broth, or too many generals not enough soldiers.
At the media meetings Desjardins came out and said our junior leaders like Edler Tanev and Dorsett. How many leaders does a team need? |

Tanev... Super Quiet
Edler... English is ...... meh.
Dorsett.. Spraying the other team with water in the last 10 minutes of the last game of the season screams leadership |
