88 isn't even in our rafters when it damn well should be. While not a requirement that's not doing him any favors with the HHOF.
Regardless, it's that time of year. Let's hope the team shocks the world and takes these Caps to the woodshed. - hereticpride
outside of Ashbee, the player in the rafters are all HOFers and Howe didn't go up there until until he was elected to the HOF. I like that they only retire numbers when a player goes into the hall opposed to some teams who retired way too many numbers. Eric's 88 should be retired when he is in the HOF. I think it will eventually happen

The 2010 team had two top-6 forwards who had rough or inconsistent regular seasons because of off ice stuff, as I vaguely recall. Not to mention, the goaltending carousel. I still say Michael Leighton saved that season when they plugged him in there after Razor went down.
This team, the way they are constituted....the 8th seed is about right, IMO.
They got a ticket to the dance, so anything can happen. - johndewar
It was great to see #88 in there...definitely my favorite player of all time and the haters can suck it. If the HHOF wasn't such a political game, Big E would be in. - aantny88

My key is actually Simmer. He needs to play with controlled aggression. Be the mean nasty SOB but don't take it far enough to get a penalty called against him alone. If he goes to the box he better take a good Cap player with him.
Putting someone between G and Ghost on the PP might help it but then you know they are going to try to skip the top guy and go between them which could cause turnovers.
another 8 point night to add to his career? - kej83
Ha, yea, wishful thinking. i wouldnt be surprised at all tho if he does chip in more than usual. i like gagner, i dont think he'll be back next year unfortunately, but he has proven he can play a third line role, and if there are injuries he can move up to either the first or second line also. i like players who can play in different circumstances, if you extrapolate his stats when he was plugged in on the second line for voracek, until the end of the season, he would be close to a 40 point season. depending on how much he wants on a deal, id give him a 2 year 2.5 million contract to see if he can expand. if not, its only 2 mil, there are worse contracts on our team
You have to admit he, along with his parents, was a big part of the problem. - Scoob
His parents to some extent, yes they were an issue. But as a parent, you want to protect your child. That never ends, regardless of their age. I didn't really see Big E as part of the issue. He played through a lot of poop that guys playing today would be sitting out for months.

They all need to play like mean SOBs.
I hate the caps but they are a hitting team. The Flyers have to hit back. One of the reasons I prefer Manning to Medvedev. I know Medvedev could be a more dynamic offensive player but I actually prefer a little more thump for this series.

True, and I am a parent of now young adults. I don't treat them like they are still 5 years old. The Lindros elders were meddling control freaks. And he wasn't strong enough to break free of them.
Imho, of course. I don't actually know any of them.

In the end Eric was ahead of his time handling concussions. He embraced the science of waiting before the sports world caught up. Concussions ended Brett s career prematurely.
From a business stand point it was a dark time for the organization. Wachovia center pretty much got built because of lindros. The area was on fire after lindros was acquired. I worked at a sports clothing store at the time. You couldn't keep lindros jerseys in Stock it was nuts
Barely remember #16 because I was a toddler when he finished up his career, but have seen plenty of highlights to know that guy gave all he had for the Orange and Black. Unfortunately, I know all too well Bob Clarke the GM and let's just say I wasn't a fan, especially with how he treated #88. - aantny88
Now I just have to.
My personal top 10 Flyers of all time!!
1. Bernie Parent
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a goalie and Bernie was my hero. From 73-75, he was simply the best I ever saw.
2. Bobby Clarke
No one worked harder, no one wanted it more. The ultimate Captain, and just an amazing player.
3. Tim Kerr
After coming to my senses, I became a winger. I wasn't a great skater but I had good size and hands and got a lot of pp goals. Kerr was my idol in the 80s and I tried to pattern my game after his. The release on his snap shot was also the quickest I ever saw
4. Mark Howe
The epitome of class and grace on the ice, it just seemed like he never made a bad play.
5. Bob Kelly
The Hound was so much fun to watch. He was hitting machine and also the knack of scoring big goals at crunch time. He's also one of the funniest guys to ever wear the orange and black
6. Dave Poulin
Another guy who just oozed class, he always played the game the right way and often through serious injury
7. Kimmo Timonen
The Finnish warrior was another guy who always played through pain and left it all on the ice. I was thrilled that he was able to get his name on the cup
8. Ron Hextall
He played with the passion of Bobby Clarke and thats no small accomplishment. His play in the 87 playoffs was just (frank)ing unreal
9. Paul Holmgren
Homer was another guy who played through pain, gave his all and always stood up for his teammates. He was also a heck of a player and one of the best fighters I ever saw.
10. Sami Kapanen
How can ya not love a guy with heart like Sami? His dropping back to play D in the 04 playoffs was huge.

Thanks Bill. Holtby should be great as usual, so we need to get some bodies to the net to make things as difficult as possible; ie. forwards other than White, or Simmer.
In addition, we have to watch out for Chimera, and Wilson, and when they are on the ice. I am surprised that the league didn't review that butt end of the stick that Ghost received the last time that we played the Caps. Oh well, if you don't have Cindy, or Kane on your jersey some things will be overlooked.
I would also consider bring up CMcD to add some grit to counter those two Caps, but I would have trouble figuring out which player to remove; team chemistry.
It will be interesting to see how the Flyers will play in the first 10 minutes of the game, and if they will let the Caps dictate how the series will go. I don't think that the Caps will sweep the series, but I just want to see a high level of compete from the Flyers. It would also be cool to see G sit Ovie on his butt at least once in the series; still love Cindy sitting on the ice that one playoff game...lol.
