Holy God. I can't see it happening as much as I'd like to believe it could. They just don't have the quality top 4 d men that you really need to make a run. In 2010, there's Pronger your stud #1, a very good Timonen, Carle and Coburn. They filled in the 5 and 6 spots and managed that well to the finals. Generally, the D was slotted correctly. Right now as much as I like Ghost, let's say he's a #2 dman. You've got him with AMac who spent most of the year in the minors, and is a 5/6 guy. Gudas, Streit, Schultz and Manning/ Medvedev. Even if we hadn't have lost a very solid MDZ, that's not enough to get you a cup. Soon my friends soon..Provy #9 is on his way. |

If you had read a similar article in 2010, even just one saying they'd get to the Final, the reaction would have been the same.

Hell yeah. That team in 2010 under achieved in the regular season and came together when it counted.
This 2016 team overachieved for sure. I'm just not sure its humanly possible for them to sustain that effort this time around.
But as you say, anything can happen. |

It was great to see #88 in there...definitely my favorite player of all time and the haters can suck it. If the HHOF wasn't such a political game, Big E would be in. - aantny88
88 isn't even in our rafters when it damn well should be. While not a requirement that's not doing him any favors with the HHOF.
Regardless, it's that time of year. Let's hope the team shocks the world and takes these Caps to the woodshed. |

Lots of moving parts in the top 6 that should be worked out during the game. I expect Hakstol to change up lines to get something going offensively and get better matchups. He has done a pretty good job of that this season |

couldn't agree more Bill. The cap's are and should be the favorite, but the Flyers have been a different team the last 1/4 of the season. Like any playoff series this could go either way....Bounces, injuries, momentum swings, adversity...7 game series have a life of their own. That's why they play the games.
Hopefully the Flyers survive the 1rst period and jitters and remember the system that they have been really playing well since the end of January...then all bets are off.....Can't wait !!! |

That or Gagner steps up majorly for his playoff debut series - arichardson22
Gagner is a streaky player. Maybe he catches lightning in a bottle in this series.
I wouldn't be counting on him for offense though.
Obviously the Flyers need their best players to play great, and they need to stay out of the box. |

Barely remember #16 because I was a toddler when he finished up his career, but have seen plenty of highlights to know that guy gave all he had for the Orange and Black. Unfortunately, I know all too well Bob Clarke the GM and let's just say I wasn't a fan, especially with how he treated #88. |

Sure, the stars and planets would have to align 'just so', and Mr Snider would have to strike a deal with the Hockey Gods, but there's a chance.

I don't know if it's the talent or the system or whatever, but I thought the Rangers blue line is considered better than what they are playing. I've seen a few Ranger games lately (by coincidence) and frankly, they don't look much better than our guys. |

not a big fan of Clarke the GM esp the Williams and Brindy trades |

Keep it simple. Forecheck. Low turnovers. Tighten up the defense. They can walk out of DC 1-1. |

And remember all the poop Tanner got for being the one to say it? Clearly he just based that off Corsi, but the dude was right |

The 2010 team had two top-6 forwards who had rough or inconsistent regular seasons because of off ice stuff, as I vaguely recall. Not to mention, the goaltending carousel. I still say Michael Leighton saved that season when they plugged him in there after Razor went down.
This team, the way they are constituted....the 8th seed is about right, IMO.
They got a ticket to the dance, so anything can happen. |

Flyers seem to make HHOF a requirement to get the number to the rafters. |

My HATE for the Washington Crapitals knows no bounds. You guys are most certainly the underdog. Good luck tonight and all series long. I hope you send them to the golf course.... Quickly! - Artyukhin76
Lots of Flyers fans who remember the old Patrick Division will always have a bit of hate for the Caps.
Never forget it was the franchise that spawned Scott Stevens and harbored the war criminal Dale Hunter. |

Need to withstand the first 5-10 minutes. Caps will come out with energy.
Score first and put pressure on the caps.
Stay out of the box
They need to play with an edge. |

Feels so good to get pumped for PO hockey again. Based on my expectations for the team this year, I feel they're playing with house money right now. I know as soon as the puck drops that sentiment will change.
Let's go Flyers! |
