I honestly don't get the whole "hipster" thing with the move to Barclays...
Hipsters live in Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and Bushwick. Barclays Center is a handful of miles away from these areas (which is considered far in NYC).
I live in Williamsburg so you're getting this from the source.
Barclays Center is more "urban" to be politically correct. No hipsters in that area at all.
If you go west or south of Barlcays Center it is where all the yuppies live (Park Slope, DUMBO, etc.). Again, not hipsters.
So if the whole "hipster" and Barclays Center thing could stop that would be great. Barclays Center and the Islanders are focusing more on attracting an "urban" fan base that lives in that area and is more prone to watching the Nets over the Islanders. - kcNYI
I freakin' hate hipsters. But if the chance of seeing a hipster keeps you away from Barclays's then good (frank)ing riddance to you.
It's not a real issue. Just something to have some fun with.

Would be a lot worse if we were playing the Penguins. |

To be fair, walk a couple of blocks south and you're in practically Park Slope, a neighborhood that would read as "hipster" to anyone who cares about such things. - Snowblind
Well, no. A couple of blocks south of Williamsburg might put you in Bed-Stuy or Clinton Hill or Fort Greene, but nowhere close to Park Slope..........which is all the way on the other side (south) of Barclays. Also, I would guess that the other poster would argue that Park Slope is more for Yuppies, not Hipsters. |

First we're going to hear from all the whining Rangers fans about how we tanked the last game to avoid Pittsburgh (after they tanked most of the last month and a half of the season...apparently to avoid Pittsburgh).

This was the one time I didn't rip capuano despite wanting to play the pens, I agreed with sitting so many key players as we already have key pieces hurt. If we lost someone else to injury in the last game of the season he'd have been crucified. |

Steve zipay from newsday just ran the story about how alan vin whatever turned his tv off in disgust at the islander flyers game. Saying the rangera chose to play hard and the islanders didnt
WE BEAT YOU FOUR TIMES WORRY ABOUT YOUR OWN TEAM - Flexingtheshaft
This tanking thing is getting way blown out of proportion. Lots of teams rest guys after they lock up a playoff spot. The Flyers did too, yet nobody is bi*ching about that. What incentive did the isles have to dress all their regulars this past weekend? It wasn't like they had a shot at home ice advantage if they won. They just would have had a different (some argue better) 1st round opponent if they won Sunday. It still would have been a road series regardless.
Truth is, the games the isles played against BUF and PHI didn't have an impact on teams either making or missing the playoffs. There is nothing wrong with sitting guys to get them rest and healthy if you've already clinched under that scenario. |

Yep, but everyone complains regardless. Remember when the Isles played the Devils to end the 2006-07 season and Toronto fans flipped out because the Devils rested Brodeur? |

Agree, tanking in the NHL for one reason or another has gone on for many years. The Edmonton Oilers have become experts at tanking.........all those 1st overall picks don't come without some effort.
The Islanders tanked several years ago to assure themselves the worst record in the NHL to maximize their chances of selecting John Tavares. I recall a game late in that season that went to a shoot out. Scott Gordon used Brendan Witt as one of his top 3 shooters. He was making sure that the Isles wouldn't get that extra point. |

...and that's the point, isn't it? The Flyers sat all of their players, too, except the kid going for ROY, and Voracek, who spent most of the last two periods on the bench. We could have gone up 2-0, everyone could have packed it in from there, and we'd be playing Pittsburgh. It wasn't like they showed up with a full lineup and we brought up the Sound Tigers to play the whole Flyers team.
That said, I prefer Florida for one reason- experience. Other than Jagr and Luongo, they don't have a whole lot. Nothing prepares you for playoff hockey like playoff hockey. That should be our advantage. It would be nice to get Jaro back by the time we hit Brioklyn. That wouldn't hurt, either. |

You might want to stop the "whose got the best beard contest" every game. The really weird bands/DJ's playing sometimes between periods and during commercial breaks too. They even had Grabovski and Kulemin in full hipster mode during a commercial. Barclays is trying to Attract the Hipsters...sorry.

It a dumb argument. The Isles did the right thing resting guys with the injuries they already have. What would happen if JT gets hurt and misses the playoffs? Isles did not have home ice to fight for like you mentioned Jethro. AV should not have said anything as it makes it look like he is afraid of the Pens. |

I hope they plaster Bailey's ass to the bench. I thought Quine played really well.
Sure it was only two games, but he (frank)ing tries. |

The funny thing about that is when everyone looked like they were in second gear in that last game... Bailey looked the same to me. |

Quine did well and if they want to move Casey up next year maybe Quine can center a 4th line? I would play Quine over Bailey right now. |
