R.I.P. to a hockey great.

He was as much a symbol of this organization as the crest that is worn on the jerseys.

This may just be my perception of stories written and biased opinions, but it seems like the difference between Snider and other other owners in various sports is the method by which decisions are made. Just seems like Ed based his decisions on what was best for the Flyers and fans, and those decisions were appreciated and became great financial decisions, whereas so many other owners are strictly focused on finances. How much will that cost? Can we fit that in our budget?

If you build it, they will come, right? Seemed to work for the Flyers

FIRST ROUND PICKS

WEST
Anaheim vs Nashville
What I think will happen: Anaheim wins a 7 game war
What I hope will happen: The Preds upset the Ducks in 6

LA vs San Jose
Ha, no love lost here!
What I think will happen: As usual, the Kings find a way to dispose of the Sharks, Kings in 6
What I hope will happen: I'm sick of the Kings, I'd love to see the Sharks upset them by winning game 7 in LA

Dallas vs Minnesota
Minnesota has been a dumpster fire the last couple of weeks, but that often goes right out the window once the playoffs start
What I think will happen: In a tougher series than many expect, the Stars win a 7 game war
What I hope will happen: Sorry Stars fans, I cannot stand Lindy Ruff. Love to see Minnesota pull off a 6 game upset.

Chicago vs St. Louis
Congrats St. Louis, you had a great regular season, and your reward is to face the Hawks in the first round, LOL. IF any team ever needed a game 1 win its St. Louis. With their past track record in the playoffs vs the Hawks, and Keith out on suspension, this would be a great start for St. Louis
What I think will happen: Chicago does what they do which is find a way to win. Hawks in 7
What I hope will happen: St. Louis holds off the Hawks in a thrilling 7 game series.

EAST
Florida vs NY Islanders.
Congrats NY, you got the matchup you wanted. FYI: careful what you wish for.
What I think will happen: The Panthers rally around their perceived lack of respect and crush the banged up Isles in 5 games.
What I hope will happen: THE SAME

Tampa vs Detroit
This is a tough one to call, but here goes.
What I think will happen: A beat up Tampa club finds a way to get past a Detroit squad that sags a bit having now made the dance. Bolts in 7
What I hope will happen: Don't really care who wins this series as I don't really have strong feelings for either team.

NY Rangers vs Pittsburgh
Satan vs ISIS, (frank) em both.
What I think will happen: The Pens find a way to keep this thing going and take out the Rags in 6
What I hope will happen: 7 games, each featuring at least 2 OTs and lots of non career threatening injuries to both teams. The Pens get by in 7, but lose Letang and Crosby for the next round.

and, finally

OUR FLYERS vs Washington
As much as we are all hoping for an upset, lets not kid ourselves here. The Caps are deep, healthy, loaded and have an excellent goalie, a Flyers victory would be a monumental upset.
What I think will happen: The Caps are pushed hard by the scrappy Flyers, but hang on to win in 6 hard fought games.

What I hope will happen: The Flyers pull off a huge upset in game 1 and put the pressure even more on the Caps. The Caps bounce back in game 2, but the Flyers, pumped by a moving tribute to Ed Snider, play perhaps their best game of the season and take a 2-1 series lead. The Flyers do come back to earth in game 4 and are soundly beaten by the Caps. Returning to Washington for game 5, Steve Mason stops 41 of 42 shots and the Flyers, clinching it with an empty netter by Sean Couturier, pull off a huge 3-1 upset victory. In game 6, the pressure gets to the Caps who flub the puck repeatedly in the first period as the Flyers take a 2-0 lead. However the ice begins to tilt the Caps way in the 2nd, and they are able to close the gap to 2-1 going into the 3rd. With the goalie pulled, the Caps tie it up with just under 1 minute to play. In OT, Mason makes a few saves early and then Wilson and Gudas each go off for 2 minutes following some nasty pushing and shoving. During the 4 on 4, Ghost makes a brilliant play at the Caps blue line and slides a beautiful pass to Jake Voracek down low. Jake snaps the puck past a startled Holtby and WFC goes apepoop!!!

The Isles/Panthers series, neither team has won a playoff series since 1996. That is unbelievable. I suspect the Isles drought reaches 23 years and counting without a playoff series win. They are crippled by injuries. They always have 80-83

LOL @ the Pens vs. Rags (frank) 'em both indeed, and hope for plenty of collateral damage.

I am going to hold you to your Flyers prediction. That would be beautiful.

If they can catch DC sleeping in one of the first two games it is a wide open series.

I'm thinking they do catch the Caps sleeping in games 1 or 2 and then the series turns into a tough hard fought series with the Flyers players digging deep due to Mr Snider's passing. Flyers in 6! Ghost makes a huge impact on the series and we see the Jake and Simmer we all know and love.

Let's get the train a rolling! Guys time for your last shave for a while!

There is something about this team. And with mr. snider passing this team will do whatever they can to make him proud. This team is going on a run. Maybe they don't win the cup but this team is going to make us proud this playoff. No quit.

Could you imagine if they were able to rally behind this and win the cup this year? It'd be a shame that Ed couldn't see it but his passing could be seen as a final "gift" to the team, to give them the fire and passion to come out and shock the world. I think we're going to see Simmonds and G on a whole different level this series.

Thank you Mr. Snider for everything you have done for this city. God bless you and your family.

Snider was a minority owner. The family is so big, and there is no one from the (large multigenerational) family being groomed. I would suspect the Robertses know what they are going to do. They've had plenty of time to determine (and likely with Ed's input). So probably after a decorous period of mourning there'll be an announcement of a new chairman. It will never be the same, though.

Although, it could be they bring in a new minority partner, I really can't imagine that being the case.

According to Simmer, this run was motivated by their affection for Ed and desire to do this for him.

I'm glad we have until Thursday before the next game. Lot's of time to regather and recharge emotionally and physically. And time for a couple of good practices to sharpen up.

Very true. They will go out and compete, and give it all they can. I hope know one views it as a slight to Mr. Snider should they lose to the Caps. They aren't as good as Washington is. I said after they made the playoffs it is all gravy from here. Franchise is still in the infancy of Hextall's vision, and has a first year coach. I honestly believe just making the playoffs this year puts them ahead of schedule.

Absolutely. After the start they had, I never dreamt they'd be here.

There is a tribute video released by the team. Great stuff in there. Including a nice memory from G about lunch with Ed during a slump. Very different advice from what he expected. And illustrative of where G's "just have fun" speech before period 3 of a big game came from.
