Seriously...not trying to sound like a (frank)ing homer here...It WAS unnecessary, but it was a (frank)ing love tap. I think Johnson lost an edge (don't know if it was the skate getting stuck), and would have fell anyway. It just looks bad because Pateryn touches him before. - stinger67
What you just said is basically what all the Lightning fans said regarding this hit literally just a few games ago:
It was AFTER the whistle and nothing would've happen if he doesn't touch him. I could barley push my wife, but if she's standing at the edge of a cliff she still dies. - Artyukhin76
Yes, no exaggeration here.
Pateryn is not a dirty player. Just saying that I've seen way, way worse in means of shoving a guy in the boards
Also, coming from a guy who's nickname takes after a player who spent his short time in the NHL headhunting, this is cute.
1) Dumb move--properly penalized and a suspension is warranted as far as I'm concerned (doubt the league will give on as it has taken giant steps backwards in that regard). I'm a Habs fan, so no homerism here.
2) Not typical of Pateryn. At least not in his limited NHL experience. Doesn't excuse the move but not something I'd expect to see emerge as a pattern of behaviour.

My nickname has nothing to do with this. My nickname didn't hit a player after the whistle causing him to slam head first into the end wall, thanks for playing.

you cannot even suspend him for six games because keith has done stupid crap like that twice before targetinga player's head with intent to injure and got five games and one play off game.
but oh wait he is a star so different strokes for different folks.... because keith should have gotten twenty and then it would be easy to give this guy 40 and make a statement.
It was punished accordingly, I won't and can't argue that. However the circumstances are different between these two hits. - Artyukhin76
Oh yeah. Nor argument from on that. It's ironic for the canadiens and the fanbase. Just wanted to get Just5's on opinion on checks on player who don't have the puck.

Haha, (while I get the point you're trying to make)that's a horrible analogy.
I didn't see a cliff, pit of molten lava, or pond full of piranhas in the scene.
Not as bad as the Boyle hit, not putting the blame on Johnson, obviously he didn't do anything wrong, but it's shows that sometimes when you barely touch a little guy, he gets knocked down.
I can't believe anyone is mad after watching the replay. There was clearly an edge caught, his skate stops cold sideways and he falls badly into the boards. It's just more bad luck for us as we head into the playoffs. There was no intent to injure at all, stop trying to make the league look softer and softer by complaining about guys falling.
Maybe he was just protecting his goalie from an "accidental" slash to the throat? - Thunderbolt
Wow man are you still caught up on that nonsense with simmonds? Said and done brother. Dirty play from simmonds, that being said simmonds isn't a dirty player, and had more than a few pens fans come to the same exact conclusion as that. Get over it you tiny weeny whiner.
