That video you're referring to is a KHL fight and I wouldn't say he completely dominated the other guy. He seems to be aware that guys over here are bigger and more experienced at fighting than he's used to. A bit wary which is a good thing. But yeah, some combat training would come in handy. What's Prust doing these days?

Wasn't there a big San Jose guy that underestimated Rypien and had some of his anatomy re-proportioned?

I totally agree with that, but if your assessing the current roster there's more maybe's than actually looking like bonafides IMO. I really like both Bae and Tree, but are they going to be difference makers next year? I'm honestly not sure, and not surprised some journalist who doesn't follow the Canucks isn't either. Wheras

I think with Bo, Sedins, Sutter, edler/Tanev I'm pretty sure that they will be good next year.

When I looked at the article again, I realized how much he talked about prospects with Toronto and agree with you a bit more: we have more going than he`s suggesting. But I kinda agree with him: they need to get off the fence and rebuild IMO and they look like a team in limbo.

1thing Ive noticed w bo so far in his 2 yrs is he seems to have slow starts. seems like hes good for 2/3 rds a season. Maybe his off season should be tweaked. Some playoff time would be healthy for him too.

Like I said expect tree to be very very good for us.
HOWEVER, there is something with this team that seems to make all D men look like crap after awhile. Im praying that is not the case with our new guys.

Agreed. I have looked for KHL fights and was only able to find the one of Tryamkin. I'm sure he will be able to fight eventually but he could use some training

Best scrapper this team has had (for the time i've watched them), hands down (or up as the case may be )

That style he had, blocking shots and throwing out that jab. So f'n effective

which is strange they dont fight in hockey much there. Most russians know how to fight pretty well. Many were required to do army service. Pretty sure (from my russian friends) most men have to do 2 years. Maybe not for athletes.

Check out russian road rage videos for fights. Theres a lot.

donald brashear was the best we ever had. Undisputed champion hands down. Dont think he ever lost once unless you count the stick to the head incident.

rypien likely next runner up though. Good scrapper for a smaller guy

To me, I think he is an example of the change in hockey fighting. He had boxing training and kept that hand up for defense which you never really saw in a hockey fight, it was unique, and he went for punches thrown. Even in that Gill fight, he went for it and landed quite a few. These days (cough Prust cough) its all about grappling, seatbelts and spinning the guys around. Not too many fights are toe to toe throwing

No i saw him.
I remember meeting him at A&B Sound in downtown Vancouver actually too.

I just think that for the guys that Ryper fought, his style, his courage and his success rate, or amount of shots that he landed makes him the best P4P.

Brash was a great fighter tho. I just don't favour heavyweights as much as smaller guys punching above their weight.

Sorry guys Curt Fraser by a country mile (ask Dave Farrish) also Randy Holt as a Canuck and he went nuts in LA one night

Best fight I saw was rookie Harold Snepts v Steve Durbano of Pitts at the time no helmets and pounded each other's skulls in an exhibition game
