At this point these should be the themes for any and all Hakstol comments:

He was the right choice
He's done a great job
He knows what he's doing
He adapted quickly to the NHL game

serious question: does he get legitimate consideration for the adams trophy?

True, but I wasn't expecting playoffs this year anyway.

I'll probably need to eat some crow, RE: Brayden Schenn. He has provided secondary scoring that they've needed. Couple that with the further growth of Couturier, the arrival of Ghost, and some of the things Hak has done, and they are in much better shape than this time last year.

- johndewar

I understand that. But they are in a good position to make the playoffs. 2 games in hand with the team they are contending with only having 5 games remaining. Have to close the deal now.

He should, but that Jack Adams trophy is Barry Trotz's to lose.

Ill add to that even.

They have gone from a team that struggles to play 5v5, and lives and dies by the PP and PK, to a team who lives and dies by 5v5 play. That is a HUGE step in the right direction. They have a crop of prospects that will really look to make the next step next year, and a few who have already started this year (Ghost, Cousins, Laughton, Manning). It really is an exciting time to be a Flyers fan.

Agreed, but I'm not jumping off the Ben if they don't make it.

It'll suck. I'll be disappointed.

But I'll also understand this roster isn't quite ready.

Good times are ahead Joe. Hextall has the patience and vision going forward to build a strong team. Provorov is on the way, Konecny will be a contributor in short order in all probability. The goaltending is pretty strong. I think the Flyers need to add a sniper. A legit 30 goal scorer. If they can find that player, they are going to be a strong team. There are some holes now, and a good amount of dead money, but it can be overcome.
- PLindbergh31

Look if they bring up provorov and morin next season I'll be dusting off the pompons

I agree with you. Don't think the NHL will have the guts to do it. I say he gets suspended for the remainder of the regular season, and doesn't miss any playoff games. He could have taken Coyle's eye out with that bush league poop.
- PLindbergh31

i have zero faith that the nhl will do anything remotely close to what is appropriate. they're (frank)ing idiots.

I think Morin has at least another half to full season in the AHL before he makes it to the Flyers. He is the one guy I really want them to be patient with. Could be huge for them in a few years.

Well... Wideman served 19... then got pay back for 9 of those.

And I think these should not be related by any means... everyone knows the player safety department sucks ass.

I'm kind of playing devil's advocate here. I think Keith's incident should be punished severely, but I know there's no consistency. A lot of people would also argue that hitting a ref regardless of a lack of prior transgressions is more serious an infranction.

Making the playoffs, regardless of how long the run lasts is great. They were never going to be bad enough to pick in the top 3, so picking in the 8-12 range isn't really any different than picking 16.

- PLindbergh31

So true. I've said it time and time again, this is very helpful for the younger player's development. Could you imagine cheering for the Oilers??

I wonder where 20 goals would rank him among other so called 2nd line centers in the league?
- MBFlyerfan

Just looking at the top 4 teams in the conference they all have 2 centers close to or above the 20 goal mark. Assists are nice but you need to score goals.

i think he's going to take a while, but Hexy has shown to be patient. Provy is the guy I think can make the jump. Sanheim probably needs some seasoning.

The whole Konecny thing has me worried. Any update on his supposed shoulder surgery.. cry..

not remotely the same in my opinion. i get the officials are off limits, but what wideman did was nothing like keith in terms of danger or intent or recklessness, not to mention there was some uncertainty about his mental state after just being hammered.

keith needs to be punished severely, as you said.

He has 10 goals in 57 games which is a 15 goal pace. 26 assists which expanded is 38 assists.

His P/PG is at .63

That puts him with the Logan Coutures, Alex Galchenyuk's, and Derek Steppan's class.

Sounds like a second line center to me..

Cheering for them in the mid 80's would have been fun. They are a trainwreck now.

I love the guy but I don't think so. He's done a lot with what he had to work with but I don't think he's done Adam's quality work. Perhaps if they were 1st or 2nd in the conference...

it was a preposterous team they had. should have won at least 5 straight and could have legitimately been 7.

the smith incident still makes me a little happy.
