Too bad we can't matchup with SJ in the first but I'll take STL as a consolation.
- Assman22

4 straight shut-outs for the two Blues goalies.

No consolation with any of the presumed 8 in the West: on any given Sunday...or, rather, any given fortnight.

Sorry for all the charts. Don't know if you've seen hockeyviz.com, but his stuff is interesting. I thought this one nicely summarized the Hawks special team woes. If I'm interpreting this correctly, the vertical axis (4v5) represents how many shots you allow on the penalty kill, while the horizontal axis (5v4) represents the shots you take on the power play. The top right corner is ideally where you want to be -- you're shutting down your opponent on the PK, but you're also getting off many shots on your PP. The chart represents each team's last 25 games. The Hawks don't fare well in either category as we know.

What most Hawk fans can't admit is that they caught a break playing the Preds without their best player last spring and despite not having him played the series pretty evenly.
And had they came back here for Game 7 I think the Preds would have won.

- predsfan97

Except that's how hockey is. Everyone does and doesn't catch a break at some point. If this person isn't injured then x y z would have happened... If Keith isn't a robot, Hawks go out once Rosy goes down. Or! If Rosy doesn't go down the Hawks win in less games than it ended up taking. If Leddy doesn't bank Martinez's shot in Hawks have two in a row. Bergeron isn't nursing an injury and they force a game 7 in 2013. If the Ducks could win a game 7 they'd have won a game 7! If Pronger is on the ice in 2010 when the Hawks win the cup he kills Kane and that's the end of everything.

Bravo. In an alternate history the Preds may have won. Okay! Have fun with that buddy

Did you notice Schmaltz at all last night? I had to look hard to find the guy. Reminded me of his junior days.....Interesting to note both goalies played in the USHL, Steve Racine could only last 7 games in the league with two teams and Cam Johnson could never win a starting spot in 3 years.

Johnson looks real good though. Square, quiet body and quick.

Schmaltz played a solid game. He just went about his business and didn't try to do anything too flashy.

Listening to the radio pregame, Panarin is out. Said he's dinged and Rasmussen draws in.

I can't even watch a Blues game watching Fabbri, who the Hawks passed over for Schmaltz.

Schmaltz has a huge amount of potential and I think he'll fit the Hawks system well.

Phil, this has been a Hawk problem since the first cup and purge. Remember getting knocked out by Vancouver just how bad this was. The most novice of fans could see 4 Canucks lined up across the blueline but the Hawks simply refused to dump. REFUSED.

Fast forward 5 years later and the core is beat to a pulp. This group, and I'm not sure I can blame them, are simply not gonna take any other path but the least resistant one late in the regular season. We'll soon find out if they are willing to pay the price come playoff time, the flipping of the switch so to speak.

Eddie O brought up a good point yesterday in between riveting "cookie" banter. Indeed teams' D are dive bombing and it's a problem. To counter that possession has to be gotten cleanly, which they don't seem able to do, and stretch pass (haven't noticed much of that although it's rare I can sit through 60 minutes of Hawk hockey) or cleanly exit for an odd man break.

As is always said, and it's true, the Hawk offense is triggered from their D in their zone.
