Bump Vancouver up 2 or 3 spots (Benning VS Chia pet is a toss up) and change Ottawa to Quebec City and you pretty much nailed it.

Vanvouver has hit on a few draft picks that will change thier outlook for sure
Boeser and Petterson look like legit players. Horvat is also decent

Will see what Ottawa does here with this car crash season..they could be the bottom soon if they choose unwisely

something that popped up in my twitter...Chia and Dorion were finalists for GM of the year

I looked up who votes on them
"a 40-member panel that included all 30 general managers, five NHL executives and five media members

Luckily Poile won but man voting for some of these awards is so far off base. Like the coach of the year, fired the next season. They dont seem to care to look under the hood, just where you ended up. most of those awards are lame

Coach of the year, aka the PDO award.

Most of the voters of these things definitely have tunnel vision focusing entirely on final results and ignoring the process that got them there. This is how 18 wheelers go off a cliff.

This, and it basically extends to the GM award(assuming the GM made a couple of moves over the summer or tdl).

Agreed. And when these awards are given out it allows for guys who have done a horrible job to hang on longer than they deserve setting the franchise back. Roy in Colorado jumps immediately to mind.

Leafs will pay a huge price this year because they are so weak on the backend. They got off lightly last year when lot of teams went off their A game to play pond hockey with them. It won't happen this year and the Leafs will have tougher nights in terms of the defensive play they encounter.

Having said that I expect the Leafs to contend for a playoff spot and if they hang in until Christmas they could have a strong second half.

I expect the Sens to continue on from their playoff run and win their Division. I expect the addition of one major piece up front before the season opens.

After 2 weeks of double digit negative temperatures it sure is nice to relive some summer talk.

It makes me feel warm all over.

I am going to get back to helping Spazzo with his summer Parade Route planning. I am experienced at that.

this is the current order I have them in

Jets
Leafs
Calgary
Edmonton
Montreal
Ottawa
Vancouver

Original ranking still pretty much what I would have after the trade deadline ^

for me its currently a toss up for last place between Ottawa and Vancouver. The sens sold some assets but not enough IMO, and Vanvover does have the best prospects at the moment, but what is Benning doing? re-sign Gudbranson? why they didnt trade anything they could for more picks is puzzling. They could have loaded up and really added some prospects, but instead want to pretend they are competing and finish in the bottom 5 anyways.

Jets are really good, Leafs are on the cust of being really good.

Bennign is an idiot, but you have Montreal ahead of the Canucks? How so?

Both with idiot GM's

Both poop rosters

But I'll take Boeser/Horvat and the Canucks prospects over Drouin/Galchenyuk and the Habs prospects all day

I guess the best answer is...because you have to rank them somehow.

But I agree to a point. Boeser has been awesome for sure. But he is also one of the players severely outperforming his xfg%, expect him to fall off next year and he has already started to regress. I am high on petterson also. I like what they have..but Benning should have put them over the edge with selling

In this coming draft Montreal has 10 picks in the first 5 rounds, the Canucks have 4
Seriously Vancouver? you are a lottery team 4 years in a row and still dont have more picks?

I see a way out for montreal if they stick to it, not so much for the nucks atm

montreal is the same as vancouver but with no good players lol.

vancouver is at risk of becoming the next edmonton. they're going to have multiple great players but benning is a moron and can't be relied upon to fill out the rest of the roster properly. if they get a solid gm they'll be fine.

edmonton is edmonton.

calgary is ok but their d is aging. not sure they'll get better before they get worse.

toronto is #2. tons of upside

winterpeg is #1. better team now with similar upside to toronto

I dont agree on that totally. Montreal Has Gal/Drouin/Galager who are all 25 and under. They could also trade Pax, Price and Weber and get some good returns..if they decide to go all in tank

quick fixes!

friedman:

10. I think Vancouver was disappointed Mikael Backlund re-signed with the Flames. He was going to be a Canuck target.

If we’re including former NHL teams, I suppose the original Winipeg and Vancouver franchises should also be mentioned.
