I haven't been following the projected picks beyond what I read on here and a couple of the other sites. if JB thinks any of those d prospects are future top pairing dmen, not necessarily #1's, I wouldn't be surprised if he took one with the 4th pick or later if available. so I guess that is Chychrun, Juolevi, Sergachyov, etc..

That being said, I wouldn't be disappointed if he just went the bpa route either. and in that case, I wonder how JB has all the players ranked compared to central scouting and McKenzie.

Id rather have the D if you ask me. Appears to me as if the high pick D have a higher impact for their teams than forwards. With forwards only the truly elite seems to have that much impact on prolonged winning...esp cups. Crosby, OV, mario, Lindros, iginla are exceptions amongst others etc
BUt the franchise D more often seem to have a bigger impact. Think S,Weber, Leetch, Doughty, Blake, Robinson, keith, seabrook, hedman, pronger, neidermeyer, suter, Orr, Potvin, Foote, chelios, chara, lidstrom, etc.

not to take ANY thing away from the contribution of legendary or currently dominant forwards to their teams. I just think a franchise D goes a longer way in securing long term winning success.

Yup, and id guess Markstrom would be in net for two of the 3-4 wins. Although cant hate on Millers performance last game. Makes me wonder if he actually wants to stick around, his window is closing fast

he has 6M reasons to stick around

For the record: I was at the game Saturday, and I didn't cheer goals against or the loss. I sat there and would have cheered if the Canucks scored, but they didn't.

No, didn't see anyone. It's much easier to cheer a loss when you're at home watching on tv or not watching at all.

For the record; I've read your posts about being at the game, as others that went to the game. And I believe you wouldn't cheer when the opponent scores. I am strictly being facetious with my posts...and only because when I post that I want the team to play to win (if they lose by playing to win, then they played with heart), I get embrace tanknation, you're a bad fan not wanting a top 3 pick...this is nucker from last year all over again but on a much larger scale.

I figure if people can post wishing for losses, I can post ridiculous posts also.

Going back, oh I don't know, seven years of top five picks...

2009 - Tavares, Hedman, Duchene, E. Kane, B. Schenn
2010 - Hall, Seguin, Gudbranson, Johansen, Niederreiter
2011 - RNH, Landeskog, Huberdeau, Larson, Strome
2012 - Yak, Murray, Galchenyuk, Reinhart, Rielly
2013 - MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin, Jones, Lindholm
2014 - Ekblad, Reinhart, Draisaitl, Bennett, Colle
2015 - McDavid, Eichel, Strome, Marner, Hanafin

Two of those kids has been to a Cup final, Hedman & Seguin, and only a few have even made the playoffs. I hope you all are wise enough to know the Canucks are in for many years of being bad unless they get extremely lucky with their current crop of draft picks.

I'm all for getting a high draft pick providing the kids play the right way, that said, the next five years are gonna test your patience Scooby. When the high of picking a top draft pick is over and you realize it takes years for them to become the player you hope and they can't do it by themselves, your enthusiasm will fade.

You could go back to the year 2000 and your theory will still be supported....high draft picks are only good if the management is smart enough to surround those picks with the right players and coaching....have the Oilers taught no one anything? high picks alone dont get it done

I'm a very patient man. Golf and poker are two of my favourite sports.

I'm also a blue Jays fan, so I have them to cheer for the next 5 years while we rebuild. I'm getting more into the white caps, two small kids keeps my attention elsewhere. I think I'm as ready as anyone for this, thus why I've been advocating for it the past couple years.

Drafting is fine and dandy , but making proper trades are equally as important and so are key acquisitions in the UFA market. Look at the last 6 years all teams had a top 5 , key trades and key signings.

This year we will get our top 5, make some key trades, and fill some spots with key players

Team building is important. Role players. Systems of play too.
and If you wanna go far in playoffs you gotta have an X's n O's coach. We see how well those types (sutter, coach Q, laviolette, Carlyle, julien, bowman) have done in playoffs vs types who arent (bodreau, WD, wilson, etc)

You can't make key trades unless you have trade chips and your ready to take that next step, the Canucks aren't anywhere near there, they're still bottoming out. You too are fooling yourself.

This is going to take years.

Its no coincidence you see the same teams in the hunt year in and out and why is that? for every reason you said....ok yes the Kings didnt make it last year but now they are primed to make a deep run this year...smart organizations will always find a way of getting it done

You are so wrong . Some key trade chips could be Bo JV McCann Edler Tanev Hansen Sedins Boeser. We have the chips but are Canucks willing to move any of them. Not willing to move some one is a whole lot different than no one to trade.

Remember LA traded Schenn and Johnsen to get Carter and Richards.
