Thanks Bill. Painful game to watch. The forwards consistently hung around the blue line waiting for the passes to come to them. Then, they wonder why the other team's forwards out work them. And, the turnovers were frustrating to watch. Why pass blindly, or to a player that is covered? I guess it's still the "hot potato" syndrome; here you take it, I don't want it. I would love to have a forward that is big, can skate, and has confidence with the puck; maybe a J. Benn type?
I hate to say it, but I think that the team plays better with Manning in the line-up. He provides a little grit on the back end, and stays at home. With Medvedev in the line-up you may get some more offensive play, but he isn't strong on defense, and he turns over the puck way too much for my support.
Too bad about Neuvy. Maybe, Stolarz can get some starts. I really don't think that the Flyers will make the playoffs, but if they do, they aren't going anywhere. So, why not take this opportunity to give Stolarz some NHL experience? |

So, Neuvirth is likely done for the season and I think Mase likely has some type of minor injury he's been dealing with for a while. Getting into the playoffs just got even harder. Oh well, they've already exceeded my expectations for this season, so I can't complain. |

Only concern I have with the Neuvirth injury is the Flyers have a lot of games to play in a compressed time frame. That's a lot of work for a fully healthy goalie, and Mason is almost certainly not 100% himself. Stolarz is going to see 3-5 games, and I'm interested to see how he fares.

Likewise. It was a part of the schedule that worked great for a team with 2 capable goalies |

If Stolarz can play at close to the level he did in the AHL, they could be ok |

After the win against Chicago I saw the odds of the Flyers making the playoffs at 71%, an absolute trainwreck of a 24 hours and it's under 50% now imo.
Abysmal performance at home = check
Key injury = check
Wings erase 2 goal deficit on the road vs. playoff team = check
If it all wasn't so predictable, it would be hard to believe. |

And if they beat the Isles and Jackets it'll be back at 65%. Looking st those odds is about as useful as tossing a dixie cup full of water at the Hindenburg. |

The Fishsticks can't get out of their own way. They've lost 5 of 6, and Halak is out for the remainder of the regular season. Tomorrow night is a must win.
Who are the Islanders goaltenders Greiss and Berube? That is ridiculously bad.
Mason has only started 42 games this year. He should be fresh. I'm playing him every game until they have clinched a spot, or been eliminated. Stolarz is an unknown at the NHL level, can't roll the dice with him. |

My only worry is how compressed the games are. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week, with travel in between all of them is a tough go even if you have a guy who is fully healthy, and I suspect Mason is dealing with some minor nagging stuff, anyhow.
I think they can go Stolie vs Columbus and maybe Arizona this week and see how he responds. Of course, they may well ride Mason as long as he's effective. |

Yeah, I hear you. Sucks Neuvirth got injured. I mean injured while stretching in warmups? Really? Unbelievable.
If they get the two points on the Island tomorrow night, gives them a little margin of error. If they lose, I can't imagine going with Stolarz in Columbus because essentially the season would be on the line.
I thought fringe playoff team before the season started, mid-season I thought no chance, after the win in Chicago I thought good chance. What a roller coaster.
If you look at it, what players outside of B. Schenn, Nuevirth, and of course Ghost (saved the season) has exceeded expectations this year? I really hope Provorov and Konecny can be contributors next year. That would be really exciting. |

Couturier had a very good season when healthy. Schenn & Gostisbehere emerging were great, and MDz had a very solid year in a more two way role than he really ever did before.
With the parity of a 3 point game, teams that aren't truly elite will have to endure these sort of seasons. Hell even some elite teams will-LA has Stanley Cups, but has yet to win a division title in the last 26 years |

This is exactly the perspective you should have. Going back to a week ago the odds of you passing Pit were slim. Its always been about Detroit. - all-pgh
Maybe, maybe not- in regards to it being all about the Wings. It depends on what Wings team shows up the rest of the way first and foremost. It's plausible that the Wings could move up into the top 3 in their division as well.
- They currently are 3 pts behind Boston with 1 game at hand and 1 game head to head. The Bruins also have games left vs Florida, Chicago, Rangers and the Blues.
- 4 pts back of Tampa with 1 head to head game on Tues.
The Isles have some tough games left on their schedule- 2 games v the Flyers and 2 vs Tampa; a game vs the Rangers, Capitals, and Pens.
The Pens schedule has 2 games vs the Caps and 2 vs the Flyers; a game vs the Rangers, Wings, Isles, and the Preds.
It's definitely going to be an interesting few weeks to end the season |
