I agree to an extent but its hard to judge a players worth with this (frank)ing moron playing musical lines even when they play well. - Cptmjl
Regardless of what the lines are, you are able to see how a players reacts to the game situation. But in fairness, this coaching staff is a major reason..... |

I'm sorry but I'm getting tired of ppl pointing out replacing their pts. These players are NOT big enough when it counts to have rely upon replacing pts. IF and I mean IF this Gm was able to attract or acquire better talent, the issue of replacing pts shouldn't even be discussed. Problem is the coaching staff sucks and maybe some of the players do too.... - Ur Not Me
i'm just saying you can't let Okposo and Nilsen go and sell me on a Brad Boyes like player and Barzal as their replacements |

Don't know what you really have until they are gone.
Agree Dan let KO walk if he doesn't give you a hometown discount however I think you keep Franz.
Again I think every player on the team is better with a different coach.

i think keeping nielsen is fine if you support him and the other skill players with sandpaper and grit and size.. you also need a staff and style that gets all of these players perfomring like they give a poop |

Why do you keep Franz? He's a third line player thats OK defensively but doesnt have the size or physicality to be a third line player. Hes an anomoly just like bailey and now Strome. You can tack on that he doesn't get up for big games also which we should all know all to well now. We should be targeting big game players considering we're supposedly a "playoff team" and we're done rebuilding even though eveeyone is scared to death to give up a first rd pick in the twenties. Are we keeping him for the shootout which he now sucks at anyway? Theres literally no reason to keep the guy and if we're all scared of finding viable replacements its time to replace the GM.
This team will never take the next step if it's fans and more importantly its staff move on from this love affair with players that dont bring it when it counts. |

Could not agree more Cpt. It's the GM's job to find better players than Frans. Isles need to find a better checking center than Frans at this point. Players like Frans and Bailey have been given long enough. Isles have tried the patient approach with coaches and players and it has not worked. It's time to end the country club. |

He's a good player on both sides of the Puck. In the beginning of the year when Grabbo and Kuli were on a line together they were the 3rd or shut down line and Franz was able to play a more offensive game and his production went up.
He has been used as the shutdown guy again and he sees the other teams best lines game in and game out and for the most part does a good job. Give me another option on this team that can be utilized in that role as center.
if he leaves who do you go out and get to replace him? |

Casey can be a third line checking center. Isles need more guys that are willing to block shots and throw a check and take a hit. That's not Frans or Bailey. The Isles need bigger scale changes to the top 9 and not just letting KO walk. |

correct. casey could move to third line.. maybe bring in a big fourth line center.. but you are creating a big whole if you aren't taking away 50 points in yor top six.. is frans flawed?? sure but he gives an honest effort nightly |

First off the guy doesn't even play center all the time it's not exactly like we're losing a dedicated third line center capuano floats him all over the (frank)ing place. Secondly I dont think Franz is nearly as effective defensively as he was or as much as some people think. He's everything I mentioned in my last post. Weak on the puck (which we all witnessed once again last night), along the boards (game seven ring a bell?), and in the neutral zone. Not exactly who id call a defensive juggernaut.
As far as who to get I dont know didnt really put much thought into it. Maybe make a play for RNH? He makes probably a million more than Nielsen will wind up making but I think we're getting a better player with a helluva lot more upside who would be a legit 2nd line center. As far as who else thats the GM's job to target players that'll help the team. There's always a Justin Williams, tj oshie, or eric fehr out there. Just need a GM that has the balls to make a move. Lets not make pretend it's such an impossible thing to find a decent third line center. We have the assets to easily fill holes. This guy has shown nothing that makes me want to sign him.
If we weren't a supposed playoff team I'd probably be more on board with it but signing this guy who looks completely over matched when the real season starts to me makes zero sense especially to the five year deal it'll probably take to get him signed. We have a viable option in Nelson as a third line center and fill the holes in on the wings. That's Snow's job it's not like we're looking for a first line center or a first pairing defenseman here. |

Honest efforts only get you to the first round. They dont get you out of a game seven. He doesnt have the tools to be a viable playoff performer. I dont really know how much more proof everyone needs?
Hanging on to these weak, smaillish players who don't bring it come playoff time is exactly what will prevent this team from moving forward. |

Franz plays center 98% of the time.
Not so easy replacing his minutes PP, PK etc.
Guy busts his ass and does whatever is asked of him.

Except for when he's on the wing.
Even if he did that doesn't make signing him anymore of a good idea.
Ill never agree with signing him just agree to disagree but its one of those things everyone will be seeing the light on in two years unfortunately IMO. Sorry for the long post earlier didn't intend for it to be that long |

once again.. you cant have 23 skill guys or 23 sandpaper guys..need a blend..and if you brought in some support with size and sandpaper I think Nielsen would be fine where he is. a professional coaching staff would help as well... with that being said. If he wants a 5 year deal you got to look elsewhere |

Agreed
Hey we are all patio ate about this team and I hate to always come around to the coach but if we had a different guy running this ship Cpt I don't think we are having the issues this team has struggled with and the fan base would be much more harmonious - nyisles7
100% agree with this. A legit coach would help with getting an actual understanding of what we have. With this guy running the team we don't really have an idea. |

RNH plays a small perimeter game who has the knack for always being banged up.. that's what you want to bring in?? not sure how that changes anything. I'm also all for Nelson playing center but they need a coach that can teach him that could bring out a more physical side to go along with that big frame - Dan Petriw
The reason why I say RNH in a 2nd line role is because i don't consider Nielsen a 2nd line center. He doesn't even consider himself a 2nd line center why should I? The guy has significantly more upside than Nielsen. Hypothetically of course if we traded for RNH either make a play for a 3rd line center with size and grit and move Nelson to the wing or have Nelson himself play in that role.
He (Nelson) has a bigger frame than Nielsen and I do agree a different coach could bring a little more snarl to his game (we've seen it on occasion) which would make him a more effective 3rd line center if that's where we wanted him. With all of that said RNH was just something I pulled out of thin air. It was a minor part of my entire post but it is IMO a very doable thing in the way i described.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that this guy (Capuano) won't be back this team isn't going anywhere this season unless they do a complete turn around which i don't see happening. So we may see a different side from all of these players with a different coach? If he's back that Barclays center will be empty next season you can bet on that. If they bring him back i won't be the only one saying (frank) this team i can't watch this stupidity anymore.
Edit; another long post |

I think the shorter the contract the higher the dollar amount and the longer the term the lower the dollar amount.
That said I think he will want 5 years.

Well, any coach that pulls his goalie while on the PP and down by 1 goal in game 7 would be scorned. Just doesn't make any sense at all. - odelein
Considering they had 11 shots in the entire game a two man advantage certainly couldn't have hurt. Also when you consider the power play was inept that entire series it made absolute sense to try something, anything, to get a goal. |
