Since I actually went to the game last night I actually watched the whole thing for the first time this season. My totally biased thoughts:
1. Vey is Kyle Wellwood 2.0
2. Biega reminds me The Little Engine That Could – “I think I can, I think I can”. Nope, he cant. He’s like Bieksa without any of the defensive prowess or toughness.
3. The only reason Markstrom made that incredible bare hand save is cause JV stayed out way too long and gave the puck away throwing it up the middle.
4. Hamhuis had the best shot from the point. Hamhuis.
5. The first pass was awful. It was consistently passed into the forwards’ feet.

Seriously, bring on the expansion draft because this roster has less than 8 players to protect.

Happy to see Pedan get a look, enough Weber and Bart. If there are going to be turnovers let it be done by new guys who still have a chance to get better

EDIT: Also reading/following Irfaan's tweets are almost as much of a struggle as his interview skills

he has gotten a little better, but always appears out of his element.

board of govs meeting going on, topic up for discussion.

It sounds interesting. You will be able to protect only so many but it will allow you to get rid of expensive contracts with NMC or NTC

exactly, those teams have to get to the cap floor and would probably need to take a bad contract or two if the league gets around those NMC/NTC

Sutter took them to two cups and made the in game and between game adjustments to get them to the promised land and beat coach Q who i regard as the best of the lot. If Sutter can beat Q in a seven game series when the Hawks are at their best, then he's got to be worth something.

Sutter took that group of players and did something special with them in terms of style and system suited to the parts on hand.

Crawford/ AV could never take talented Nux teams and coach them correctly to get them the cup. In game and between game adjustments, roster changes, etc... were never what was needed to win and beat the opposition. Not being able to outcoach the other guy when it really counted.

Lemaire got the better of Crawford when that Nux team should have won and AV when he got beat 3 or 4 years straight... when the team should have won.

Kings fired coach during that year because they were struggling Sutter comes in an turned the team around

I can handle some spitballin' a bit of a ways off though, but just looking at the roster and considering who you want to keep and who is expendable is a worthwhile exercise.

lols, if Torts had actually done something other than ride 4/5 guys while he was here, he might have gotten more out of the club and actually been on this list, but alas, here we are today.

Read an article that Crawford has left his Swiss club, looking for a gig with the NHL, also considering assistant job/ahl head coach.

I would consider giving him a look as an assistant, adding a lil fire to WDs nice guy schtick.

I know he's from the past, I think he had some decent results.
The article notes how he has grown as a coach and is ready for another opportunity.

Glen G seems like a real nice dude, but i've yet to be impressed with anything he has had his hands on. Time to make some changes.

Oh. And maybe the hockey gods will look favorably and give us Mathews if we hire Crow.

Canucks goaltending controversy 3.0 in 2018. Book it. Odds are, at leasty one of these guys aren't as good as we hope they are. I agree there needs to be a new core though and some of those guys in it, since you have one d-man I'd say we need another. Not sold on Hutton myself. If he plays top-4 minutes next year and doesn't get lit up, I'll happily jump onboard.

one coach that came to mind, that wasn't on your list, was Tippet from the Yotes...

I don't have a real issue with WD yet. don't like some of his line combos, but the same can be said for AV and Torts too.

That game was tough to watch because I had forgotten what an actual defense looked like.

Thought this was interesting:

Eventually you will need to choose a number one goalie but that is three years away.

Hutton is already playing top minutes.

Tanev and Edler will be around until we can improve the D . They are both tradable but more than likely will stay with the team.

the start of a goalie controversy is okay, just as long as it doesn't go on too long. drum up some interest in both and decide who you want to go with and trade the other. (don't get hamstrung with ntcs...)

Hutton is still young but he has looked pretty impressive so far. best young dman we have seen in some time.

This is the case, watching the first 10 mins and Hutton gave the puck away 3-4 times, I knew it was going to be disastrous night.

Or a great night if your Scooby and a tanknation fan...the only true good fans of the canucks apparently...

- Makita

I wonder if the Jets fans are pissed off they won?

Even the word "tanking" pisses me off, it's dumb, for lack of a better word. Transitioning to a more youthful lineup means there's going to be a learning curve associated with it. While that's happening you're going to get a few good picks, make those picks count!

I remember Kings fans, and their old blogger, what was his name, anyways, calling for Lombardi's head…..but then…..he made the deals for Carter and Richards.

That put them over the top to achieve their success. It only take a few moves when your team is ready.

I think they've gotta figure out what they've got in those players before you start building around them. But I'd like to think that's exactly what my list would be as well.

Yes Hutton is playing top minutes. The sophomore slump isn't something that happens randomly, it happens because teams adjust their strategies against defending/trying to score on players. How will Hutton do with these adjustments? They will find his weaknesses (and there are many in the d-zone), we shall see if he can adjust and get better or not. He's played top minutes for what 10 games? His defensive numbers are not very impressive, but he is our only offensive d-man right now. I would be pretty happy to see anyone 28 and older traded, I think we both agree there.
