It's all luck, but the worse you are the better pick you will have and better chance at winning the lotto.
Living in the present is all nice, but planning for the future is essential to long term success. Just like a financial plan... Putting money away for retirement, saving to buy a house.

and habitually losing becomes ingrained like TO and edmonton, canes and buff. Wheres the future in that?? We gonna bring up the kids in a losing environment like hte oilers or leafs?

Right now they are learning to compete....THATS the future right there, dont screw it up for a single high 1st that may not even pan out. Look at the sens, they did poor, selected yashin #1 and were hobbled for next 15 years.

how many more teams do we need to see ruined by tanking before you guys learm?

Hawks n Panthers have Tallon written all over it.
I don't recall either team in tank mode.
Abysmal teams yes.
Previous skin flnt owners yes.
Penquins a bankrupt team.
Prolly still was a tank job though to some degree.

I dunno, the Sens picked Yashin 2nd overall and eventually traded him for Chara + Spezza. I'd say the did alright. They were also a serious contender for a good part of a decade, and made it to the finals only to lose to the Ducks.

A good parlay to offset Daigle πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Too bad they chose Redden or Z

Heatley over Hossa.....

They've made some less than stellar moves. Drafting Yashin and especially the trade though were pretty brilliant.

Pretty sure the top 3 are no brainer picks.
They will play to win, but me wanting them to lose doesn't make me a bad fan, it actually makes me a good fan. I see things clearly, those of you wanting them to win are actually supporting them losing long term.

I'm a better fan than you.

so a few examples of it working....more that didnt. and those teams that succeeded had excellent managment and also excellent coaching staff (which we dont). Its not as simple as lose supreme, draft high, success

sens a serious contender for a decade? Surely you are kidding.

hmmm I always thought yashin was a #1 pick. No matter, pretty close and point made.

#1 draft picks dont help solve anything unless you build a proper team around said pick so you are right you dont just get that pick then BAM success.....since the year 2000 2 teams have won the cup after drafting #1...Pens and Hawks and less then 50% of all 11 teams who have won the draft have experienced consistant regular season success...draft picks only win if you have a smart management team who has a clue how to build a team
