so a few examples of it working....more that didnt. and those teams that succeeded had excellent managment and also excellent coaching staff (which we dont). Its not as simple as lose supreme, draft high, success - SMBDragon
LA is another example unless somehow were not talking about how dominant DOughty (2nd overall) is. There 2 teams in the last ten years that have won the cup without a top 5 pick as an integral part of their core. Detroit and Boston. That's quite a few. |

#1 draft picks dont help solve anything unless you build a proper team around said pick so you are right you dont just get that pick then BAM success.....since the year 2000 2 teams have won the cup after drafting #1...Pens and Hawks and less then 50% of all 11 teams who have won the draft have experienced consistant regular season success...draft picks only win if you have a smart management team who has a clue how to build a team - RatedR80
exactly....AND they had excellent coaching staff.... |

point is theres more involved and theres no guarantee either. People of pro tank seem to think its an instant success formula. Noooo its not. Theres more....it just helps if you have a #1 pick. Id rather have smart drafting in every round and teaching the new guys how to compete...by WINNING
We had a great pick in Bourdon but he is dead. Could have been a franchise guy. |

I always look to the wings as the best example of how smart hockey people are just as important....havent missed the playoffs since the 89/90 season and have 4 cups during that period and 5 cup appearances

I had such a good time that when I got home I bought tickets for Canada Japan at BC Place June 11th, and got back on the early bird list for next year.
We were talking to a guy that works for a beer distributor and he said that BC Place brought in more beer than for any other event by 3 times. 16 hours of beer sales over 2 days and 60K+ people over the 2 days, my buddy dropped $100 on Sat. and $80 on Sun.
I took my flaked filled with bourbon, at the gate the woman says she has to check me for alcohol, knives or guns. She pats right on a 8oz flask and says ok you can go. I guess she was just checking to make sure I didn't forget it.
There were more Fijian flags then Canadian flags, that was a little bit embarrassing. The format is amazing and it was the best bang for my entertainment dollar ever, tickets were $120 and I got 18 great hours of entertainment. Canada going 5-1 was also great, beating Australia, England, and then France to win the Bowl.
The down side, a douche bag from England sitting behind me complaining about everything and incredibly racist. |

I totally agree to there being a lot more to winning, and no gaurantee. But for me it is the difference in a league where it is really close between teams to have that elite guy to lean on. We get Stamkos in the offseason and I'm satisfied to go for it. Hank/Dank have been those guys for us for a while now, time to replace them with similar level of talent and there's not a lot of ways to do that, the most common is drafting. I'd love to see Chychrun or one of the top 3 forwards whci hhis what it looks like were getting. Ideally one more top 10 pick would be good next year, as it's likely one of these guys isn't as good as we all are thinking they are right now. |

For clarity, Grenier up on emerg recall for Burrows. Gaunce was emerg for Hansen, who is practising. Transactions not simultaneous. |

Embrace the tank - Codes1087
There is no tank in Vancouver, tanking is stupid, unintelligent, losing without foresight. One team in the history of the NHL has actually tried to lose and won the Stanley Cup.
Great teams just pick well when the opportunity presents itself. The Blackhawks, for instance, had two great picks that set them on their way. They finished 3rd & 5th overall, just happened to win the lottery with that 5th overall.
Solid drafting before and after have been the keys to their success....this is where Benning will earn his future. |

On top of it ppl hummed n hawed a bit when Tallon took Kane 1OA.
He did it again with Barkov. The man is good👍👍
When tanknation understand its not where u pick but who then its a good convo.
Til then tanking is a losing strategy losers look to do.
Think on this....
An ex-Canuck D Pat Quinn got our team sorted out n winning.
Shoulda done the same n hired Tallon another ex-Canuck D.
That said JB another ex D for us is here n doing just fine. |
