If that's our core I don't see much success. Sorry to piss on the parade. - golfingsince
As an outsider I have to agree with you ...not to say they arent pieces that will help but you need a boeser to turn out and Mathews or laine then things get interesting |

Yeah I think so too.
They did list Hutton as one of the core though.
Horvat JV Boeser ?
Hutton ?

Benning will add the proper ingredients to that.
Boeser and Demko are coming and I'm sure there will be a few more additions. |

It would have to be an overpay and those typically dont happen ... Anything is possible tho - Redmile247
Teams will overpay for what they perceive could be a #1C, they aren't all that common. |

I heard some intersting stuff today. Hall RNH and McDavid produce all star numbers, but Oilers failing to surround them with quality players is where they fail. |

Conroy's best years were in Calgary and without him there they don't make no cup final in 2004. He was very…very good there in the early 2000's. A 20+ goal scorer every year in Calgary except 03/04 where he was injured and on pace for 20. That 2004 team put together basically by Craig Button (not Sutter) was a damn good hockey club that probably should have won that cup. Bettman took it all away when the Gelina goal in gm 6 wasn't reviewed properly or allowed. Clearly it was in. But Gary needed teams in the deep south to do well so there it is. I remember that Flames run clearly and I am surrounded by Flames and Oilers fans living in the hub of Alberta which is Red Deer. I'm not even a Flames fan and know that it was a magical time..the red mile was crazy cool then…things were hopping. - LordHumungous
Conroy was a beauty ...not your typical #1 center by any means but had some chemistry with iggy ... Man imagine if iggy had a career with say the twins ...probably could have banked 50 every year.
Bettman had a good run with Tampa Carolina Anaheim ...all markets that need to win to sell ... |

Chiarelli has only been there a year. I think you will see big changes there next year for the new building. |

It's all a bunch of question marks at this point.
As good as Hutton has looked it's a small sample size, and there are obvious concerns. He reminds me of Jake Gardiner somewhat, who looked really good early on.
IMO, way too many unknowns to be anointing a future core. I still think McCann can bulk up a bit and become the best C we currently have. |

True ...Bennett has been very streaky and hasn't been playing center most of the year until recently ...the upside is there |

It's not a knock against Conroy who was a good hockey player, it's the fact he wasn't a #1C. He did have good chemistry with Iginla but lets not pretend he was anything special. He was a 2C at best, and on a good team probably the best 3C in the league. |

If I'm edm I put ebs and yak with Connor the rest of the year and RNH with hall ...that way ebs yak and nuge will look the best possible for a trade |

I watched a North Dakota game last week, pretty dang impressed with Boeser. Most "power forwards" or whatver they are called these days just have a great North-South game, but this guy crushes east-west, very agile if not fast. Powerful shot too. If JV/ Boeser do work out as projected, we'll have a fairly gritty top 6... hello playoffs. |

Yeah he needs a year or two to develop. One part of his game I don't like is the wrist shot. He reminds me of Kesler wrist shot first pass secondly. He had a decent year but he does need to grow.
If the two Russians can turn Vancouver into home I at least like the fact that we have toughness on two different pairings. If we can get one more gritty guy then the team has no use for LUcic.
We are not far off . |

Same here, I was not expecting how good McCann was going to be offensively going into Training camp, I never watch him in juniors. Put 20 pounds on this kid, and teach him faceoffs and he'll be an excellent center. |

I didn't know he was gritty. I heard he was a little slow but if he is scoring at this rate , not much to be concerned about. |

kind of skates like a lucic, once he gets going, he's a hard guy to stop. Dont really notice he's slower, as he's pretty hockey smart. |

If Iggy had a career being fed by the twins he'd be in the HOF while he is still playing. Love Iggy that guy is awesome.
All true on Bettman. So many tainted cups/lockouts and counting.
I remember the MTL/LA series of 93. Bettmans refs tried everything to hand Gretzky that cup but Roy just stood on his bloody head and got in LA's heads.
I remember reading an American sports article shortly after that and the guy was saying after the 93 MTL cup win…'enjoy it now Canada as you will never see a CDN cup winner under Bettman again'. So far that's bang-on.
It would be nice to see one CDN team bust Bettmans spell. Not the Habs or Leafs of course…

I think he'll be fine in the dot. Most young players struggle, and he's not that strong. When he becomes a man in a couple of years, he'll be much stronger. |

He had a fine first 30 games. He is showing he needs time in the AHL in the last 30. He is still. Kid . He stepped up. |

Every year I hear people sayin a Canadian team needs to win the cup but I just can't get aboard this theory
