I like Laine better but do you want to be the GM that turned down Mathews? I wouldn't |

Why would we ever trade our 1st overall pick? That is insanity. Matthews or Laine would be our best player within a couple years and we would likely have them in a Canucks sweater for 10 years! |

All depends on how JB sees our C's after Hank is retired.
Also what we get matters.
I really like Laine. |

This is Vancouver , when the Twins are ready to retire the fan base will want a three year extension . After that contract is up we will want to offer another mentor ship contract extension of hometown discounts for another two years followed by another two years of single contracts. So as I see it they are still here for the next 12 years.

Heck... I will take Hal Gill type at this point. A lot of "experts" are saying this kid is for real.. so for now... I will go with the hype. But its going to take at least a season to determine whether or not he is going to be able to adapt to NA style or not. - kneughter

It wouldn't be so bad if they signed one year deals after their contract is up. We could use their point production on the third line. We just don't need them leading the team at that point. The other direction should have taken hold. |

Why do they need more badly scoring. It is already badly |

I'm with you on that for the most part just maybe we could squeeze some third line production out of them in their retirement years. I'm not saying they are Jagr but I bet they will put up points tip the end. |

No disrespect. I hope by three years we outgrow our reliance of the two brothers. I know they have two years left . I hope the club will be relying on players like Boeser JV Bo Markstrom Tree Sergachev Sven Pedan Markstrom and Demko. It would be nice to win them a cup in three years and part ways. We have young talent . We have cap space and we have leadership. Let's gun for the cup in 3 |

This year is different. We are in the ballpark for a top 3 pick. Good odds.
The Leafs if they finish last have a 47% chance of picking 4 th . That is their best odds.
If we finish 5-7 we have a good chance of drafting top 3 |

Mathews is 1OA.... and you would be a fool not to listen to offers.
The fins are good, but mathews is going 1OA, despite his playoff performance, he's NHL ready next season. If I were to trade the pick, unless it were for a substantial young #1 d man, I would trade down to 5-10 and scoop up another A level prospect. Canucks dont really have a use for Mathews, though it would be a good problem to have (someone can always move to wing/ be traded) |

All good. And I'm 99% with you. I'm just having a few drinks here after hockey thinking about where we will be in 3-5 years and how difficult it is to get secondary scoring in this league now. The bottom 20 teams don't have four line scoring and in a deep playoff run a lot of the time it takes a magical third line to get you that championship. By then the leadership will have switched to the kids fully but I wouldn't be opposed to having the Sedins here for one last final run on the third line. Regardless of what I have thought about their leadership skills in the past they are world class individuals and players that will will probably put up 50 pts/year til they die. It would be kinda cool to see them get another chance at it here however unlikely. |
