if we win the lottery and if Arizona falls to 5.... do we take Matthews and never look back.... or is there the possibility of doing a deal with Arizona. Send Matthews and McCann for D. Strome and the 5th and take Chychrun? - Mungo
Definitely. The Canucks are not in a position to get picky with who they can draft they need improvement in all areas, best player available for the best chance at a blue chip prospect |

No Fabbro in there? Or Bean? - Nighthawk
For me Fabbro is the ideal pick for a team that can wait for him (like a Nashville). BCHL is a good league, but can still be quite misleading. Many players have stellar numbers there and end up taking a long time to develop out of college, if at all |

I like our first round pick after that they are out to lunch - VANTEL
Im not going to pretend I know anything about the guys outside the first round, but a 5'9 center is definitely not going to be a pick Van makes in the 2nd Round.
We should go after the 6'-0.75" RWer from 48thOA just because of that precise height measurement! |

If Keller is available in the 2nd which he won't be you take him, I can understand the hesitation on his size to take him in the bottom of the 1st round but he has put up Eichel/Mathews/Kessel type numbers in the NTDP.
Kids with that kind of skill don't come around often, obviously a high risk but very high reward too.

Doughty was 2OA after Stamkos
Weber/keith were 2nds
Chara was 3rd
Nieds, Lidstrom and Pronger were all drafted before 2005
Karlson was mid first
which Sutter?
no idea on Pietrangelo
Edler was a late 3rd
That's not why I chose to reply to this one from the jerkle of speculation about elite defenders. Erik Johnson was 1OA and has had a good career, certainly not elite, but highly servicable, and seems to have gotten much better in the past couple years. When taking a dman in the top 10, you're probably going to get a future NHL player - whether he's elite or not depends depends on what happens AFTER the draft. Everyone who gets picked is highly skilled, there are no busts on draft day. Scouting and Player Development have come a long way in the last ten years. It's why Edmonton continues to suck despite all the top picks. Regardless of which Dman they pick, I pray he's not on the roster next year.
Besides, in the unlikely scenario JB misses with his pick this year, we've got a few more top picks coming before 2020. - Max.Betts
Suter not sutter.
3 out and three in
Hedman 2nd overall
Visnovski 4rth round
Larson 6th overall
So of the top 10 defencemen drafted in the last decade, 2 where 2nd OV, 1 was mid 1st round and the rest where second+ rounds

I would draft Mathews and make a trade for OEL
I would look at a trade something like Duclair and OEL for the first, Tanev and McCann - VANTEL
the first/tanev and McCann might not even fetch OEL alone (he is a legit norris candidate this season), let alone Duclair added, no way this happens. I'm dreaming of an edler/OEL pairing though |

Kings don't even look at players that size |

He's going nowhere. |

But yet there is talk of OEL for RNH , do we undervalue our players much |

1st/Tanev/JM for OEL is a substantial offer.
RNH is only the start for OEL. |

Oh no that's a dumb rumour, I've always thought so. Arizona loves OEL (i think he's still only 23 too), I would think Edmonton would have to add another 2 pieces(a first and nurse/klefbom maybe) for RNH. With domi/duclair and all their other prospects they are pretty set on forwards, trading OEL would be a step back and I think the yotes demand a lot for him. |

Then I would rather just draft Mathews , problems solved. |

oh dont get me wrong, its a good package for OEL. But Tanev certainly doesnt replace OEL (and never will) they dont really need JM, so it's pretty much the first they would like, they need d men and goalies. |

Yotes can keep OEL then , no problem . I like our D next year especially if we get Sergachev. |
