Wow that's nice, good that you pick the one improved stat. How's his Corsi? Do you think he's in the Norris conversation, because he was last year because everything he pushed towards the net went in. Let's be honest. He's a good defenseman (maybe even very good), but he's not elite. Brodie may be elite if he continues to improve though.

This is exactly the point and why I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Want to argue he had it tougher? - Absolutely. Want to say his offensive development improved slightly or greatly? Sure...a case could be made. Did I and everyone expect him to struggle? You'd be a fool not to.

But defensively he's done about AS BAD AS YOU CAN DO with the transition...like you couldn't do worse in the league. You hope he'll do well, but maybe expect he'll be in the worst 2/3rd of the league. But not the bottom 95% and thats what the fancy and regular defensive stats are saying. We didn't sign this kid undrafted...we traded Cory Schneider for him.

+/-, corsi, fenwick, Goals Against per 60 minutes, goals against when leading by a goal, tied, trailing by one - worst on the Canucks, and usually in the bottom 95% of the league. He's been on the ice for 79 goals this year. Canucks have given up 188. It's been bad.

Look, I have faith that he'll get much better. But as far as his year has gone, it's been...wait for it...

This is true! Their D is highly overrated, before the start of the year many had them as a top-5 D-core
Brodie is very good though, very surprised Gio has played almost every game (has come back down to earth in terms of stats though).

In philosophy they call that unfalsifyability...there is no way that his season could ever be bad/disastrous by that definition. And fair enough...this is a message board and I'm no GM, so who cares...but I get the impression, people hadn't dug into to actually see how Bo has been doing.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if it was him or Vrbata that was to blame...until I looked at the stats.

And the announcers just said that they've talked to Burrows and he's definitely gone next season. I kinda hoped they'd keep him on until his contract was done.

Please don't use philosophy jargon on a hockey message board, unfalsifiability is a double negative and not used in any philosophy paper I've read in 8 years of university. His season only looks bad when you fail to acknowledge the irrelevance of +/- as a stat. Do you believe the world if flat? I'm guessing not, that's the kind of knowledge that gets left behind when you realize it's useless and incorrect (and so is +/-).
Horvat is playing against the number 1 line yet again tonight, as he does every night. When you look at the shot differentials and account for the quality of competition he faces night after night, his stats are not that bad.

I will never just look at a players corsi or fenwick to decide how I rate them ...I will watch them play and see how they contribute ... But go ahead and play around with your fancy stats to tell you who is good
