Benching him for a period isn't productive. How can you say Hoffman doesn't bring anything to the table if he isn't scoring? Would you also say the same for a guy like Kessel, Perry, or Nash? That's (frank)ing nuts. The guys who score goals are the reason you win, you shouldn't treat a 30-goal scorer like they are a rookie or a bottom-6 plug. They deserve way more respect. Cameron is utilizing the mantra that NHL players have the same mindset as junior players. As far as I see it, it's either Cameron goes this offseason or Hoffman will hold out and ask for a trade. The latter would set this team back another season or two. - TheCalSen
I agree 100%
Any coach (Cameron) who chooses Gomez over Hoffman and says, "Gomez had more to offer..." is a joke. |

i would definitely say that about hoffman. in his last 10 games he has 1 goal, 3 pts. in his last 20 games he only has 4 goals. Since 1 Jan he has 6 goals and 5 assists. this isn't one game where he's been poop, he hasn't been a productive player in more than 2 months.
if kessel and nash don't score goals they don't do much else........so yes i'd say the same for them.
perry has more to his game than just scoring goals.
hoffman is not a 30 goal scorer, and if he continues playing the way he has the last few months he won't be by the end of this year.
hoffman is a second year pro....he doesn't DESERVE poop, he has to earn it, and the last 10-15 games he hasn't. |

The problem is, there are probably several teams willing to offer at least two times the money and length... |

i'm not talking money, i'm talking ice time.
he isn't entitled to ice time, especially if he isn't producing. he's not some 10 year vet who's proved year after year that they are stars in this league. |

I would disagree Hoffman could be a 30+ goal scorer. the problem is that the coaching staff messed with the lines and then started giving him less ice time and putting him in situations where he isn't going to thrive...
I am still convinced they are doing it on purpose so that they can save money on his contract.
I would be extremely disappointed but not shocked if he didn't resign with the Sens. We have treated him like crap and he deserves better |

all this 'he deserves' stuff is ridiculous.
people aren't up in arms when zibby gets put down in the lineup or has his ice time cut as a result of poopty play......why defend hoffman when the same thing happens to him? he has not played well in over 2 months, and he DESERVES only what he EARNS....adn right now that's NOTHING. |

Is there a stat of player minor penalties that result in other team scoring on power play?
I think Zack Smith leads the league |

Thing is we have no idea what his attitude is like. No one is immune to being given a kick up the backside. I'm not a fan of Cameron's line juggling and some of his more head scratching decisions. But he is privy to things that we will not be, same goes for any coach in any sport.I am also not convinced him and Murray are on the same page. I don't buy the saving money argument either but if that does turn out to be case then everyone in that organisation needs to take a serious look at themselves. |

Agreed. No one should be immune to criticism and being punished for poor play. |

Difference being that Hoffman is our top scorer, he was carrying our team at the start of the year and Zibby has been playing horrible all year |

I've seen two Spezza slap shots from the right in the PP, one goal
Has Bobby Ryan ever took a slap shot from there.. Better yet... Does he ever take a slap shot? |

so being the leading scorer excuses the fact that a player doesn't produce for more than 2 months?
he pulled the same disappearing act last season too.... |

No coaching staff did the same crap last season. They were working great and then mixed up the lines and messed up all the chemistry. People haven't been complaining about Stone playing like crap all year. Why does everyone seemingly get a pass other then Hoffman, a guy who is our top scorer and carried our team the first half of the season.
We should get trying to get him back on pace and producing rather then benching him and saying "to bad, now you will make a smaller contract" |

stone is 2nd on teh team in scoring (ahead of hoffman) and is leading the league by a (frank)ing mile in takeaways.
and let's not act like hoffman is getting benched all the time here....the only forwards with more ice time per game than him are stone and turris. |

Stone among several others are not living up to expectations and has not gotten any crap for it.
All i'm saying is that we shouldn't be blaming Hoffman for his production going down. We should be blaming the coaching staff for messing with lines that worked and then not putting him in a position to get back on pace.
We should be trying to be positive and get him back going rather then trying to save a buck off his next contract |

if you believe that's what they're actually doing......then i've got some oceanfront property to sell you in Kanata
he got benched for one period because he sucked ass, not to save money.
and, like i said, he's had more ice time than anyone not named turris and stone....so CLEARLY they're trying to let him play through it, and it's not working. |

According to the CBC some of the Leaf players already walk on water, so why any true fan hopes their team loses for a lottery shot at a 'hockey Messiah' is mind-boggling. I guess when you're that far down you may as well go all the way! - legs37
