The Pens board sucks. These guys are fun to talk to (minus a few) and tend to take a more realistic view of their team (regardless of what the trolls from other teams think).

None of said players were superstars by any stretch and most could be considered addition by subtraction. Especially in the case of Jultz.

Hes almost been here a year and we added McDavid no thanks to him and we are worse. What has he done that deserves any praise? I hope he makes moves we have been talking about needing for 5 years now but he hasn't. Like most ofnus here realize it's not as easy as some of you seem to think. Why hasn't he done it yet? Because like those before him he has not found a suitable deal. Period.

Maybe if its deserved? He has done little to improve the team and now there is McDavid and a developed Draisaitl that Mac didn't have to fall back on to be able to move other pieces. I am happy with the move to bring in PC and get away from the old boys club, but PC has a much easier job than Mac T did, and has yet to prove anything. Just because he has made some shrewd moves in the past in a desirable & winning market doesn't mean it's a slam dunk in Edmonton.

I'm also curious who the window lickers will designate as the 2016-17 scapegoat. My guess is the new arena or the 4th liners or maybe Fayne.

I don't know if I would use the word praise but I do give him some credit for a couple of things. First would be for not doing something, as funny as that sounds. When he took over he very easily could have made some big trade involving one of the kids just to make a trade and a statement without really knowing the players or team. Doing something like that puts us more of a position to lose a trade than win it or break even. As much as people didn't want to hear a GM from a difference conference that only seen the Oilers 2 times a year needed to take the year to evaluate the team and players.

The other thing I give him credit for which we didn't see with past management is his willingness to bury bad players with bad contracts in the minors. I think if the old regime was still in we would have had Scrivens, Nikitin, etc playing in the big show all year. I would also question what signings the old regime would have done during the summer.

I agree though, nothing has been done yet for Chia to receive praise but I do think he has done a decent job thus far. I do think out of all the GM's we have had that he is the one most willing to make the difficult trades to make this team better. Like you said those trades aren't easy and a competent GM looks at all potential trade possibilities. Unfortunately those trades usually don't happen until the offseason when teams playoff teams don't have to worry about the cap as much. I did like hearing in Chia's pressed that a lot of his conversations involved players that could be traded in the offseason.

I think this summer will really define Chia's tenure as GM here.
