It is funny that there are Jets fans that would be upset with this deal. A prospect and a 1st was the expected return for a top rental player and they not only got it but also ended up with a top end prospect that is NHL ready. They won this deal hard.
If anyone other than Chicago pulled this deal I would say they massively overpaid. The Hawks have the advantage of being able to say "well we paid a lot but at least we went for it again" (if they lose) and no one will care what they lost. If a team like Detroit gave up that much future for Ladd only to lose imagine the backlash.
Awesome deal for Winnipeg and a solid get for Chicago. - Steven_Dean
I really liked Dano. Seems like a great kid with character and talent. He was ill served with the position change. Hope he does well for Chevy but I also think the Hawks understand that they have other pieces coming and it was worth the price.
I think FL would have won by getting Ladd too but they aren't as close as the Hawks and Dale could end up signing Ladd anyways this summer. He would be another solid leader for that group.

The wheels are nowhere close to falling off yet and they may be able to remain a contender until Kane and Toews are in their 30s. Stan added a lottery choice in Panarin and 1st round level talents in Gustafson and TVR. All are on the roster now at no cost in draft picks.
They have 2 of the top NCAA scorers in Motte and Schmaltz. Motte has more goals now than Gadreau and Eichel had their final years. A little surprised Chevy didn't want Motte as he is Kyle Connor's linemate but Stan may actually value him more than Dano. Lots of depth in their system and there isn't a team more active in amateur free agency. Forsling looking pretty solid too (thanks Benning).
Keith is a freak of nature. I doubt he ages badly. Seabs is more at risk of a big drop off with age. Hammer is only 25. - tredbrta
The wheels thing wasnt about age or talent more that I thought eventually the cap would have to catch up them you would think. I HATED that forsling deal I have no idea why it was made. In fact I dont really like any deals that benning has done. We are going to be in trouble for a long time unless we get lucky at the draft the next couple years.

"To EDM: Jacob Trouba, Mark Stuart, Nik Petan, 2016 Winnipeg 1st round pick, 2016 Winnipeg 2nd round pick
To WPG: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakapov, Edmonton's 1st round pick "
Lol....you can't be serious. Never in million years would either team do that. If the Jets make another major trade and it involves Trouba then it will be with Tampa and a package coming back involving Drouin . Otherwise he is staying put.
As for Ladd , while unlikely, there is still some possibilty you could see Ladd back here . His wife and family really like Winnipeg and have developed deep roots here with the community. There is always the chance that its not always about money but rather happiness and he signs back for lesser term and dollars. Unlikely...but possible.
Can't wait to hear the "Marco" ....... " Dano " cheers in Winnipeg at opposite ends of the arena like they do in Columbus. Winnipeg arena needs something more than the usual " True North" cheer. |

I wouldn't have interest unless we are getting something significant other than Edler, I dont have an issue with Edler or his contract but he's 29 and trouba is 22 with huge upside and team control. If Seth Jones nets Ryan Johansen, I'm not interested in edler for Trouba - Ross77
I would say peg adds. Trouba hasnt proven anything and seems to be regressing Edler is a number 2 dman on most teams and a number 1 on a few and has a good contract. If the trouba money rumors are true i wouldnt do the deal anyway. He would have sign a deal similar to maata and that is even a stretch at this point. Kinda surprised cus he looked to good until this year. |

I was agreeing with your first paragraph that it made no sense for Edmonton but then you totally lost me on your second. Trouba is worth every bit of RNH right now if not more. The Preds may have turned down RNH straight up for Jones when Johansen was offered why would the Jets be adding to Trouba? - Ross77
Trouba is NOT Jones. i admit he is good, really good and has the potential to be a top 2 defender in this league but he isn't that guy yet. Until he is Trouba will not get you a top line centre. Also just because Nashville turned down (assuming they did) RNH for Jones just because they thought Johansen was better means nothing to Trouba.
I mean would you give up Schfiele for a Trouba like player right now? I wouldn't. |

Agree completely. Imagine how bad trading more than Chicago offered to get Ladd only to lose in the 1st or 2nd round. Too painful a loss for Florida while almost nothing to Chicago. |

I think Craig Button had it right last night when he graded the trade.
Winnipeg A- and Chicago A+
We now have 3 picks in, let's say, the top 35 and I know we can't keep adding 18 year old prospects but there is nothing negative about this deal in my eyes.
Then today Olli Matta signs for 6 years at an average of $4.5'ish! That along with Ryan Murray's bridge deal 2 years at an average of $2.8 puts Jacob Trouba into a bracket that he really has no argument to go above.
So.....if he wants 7 year $56 million while the market says he is a $2.8 - $5 player then we know he does not want to be here. In fairness to Trouba there is no indication he wants to leave.
But if he does we will have Trouba and 3 picks in the top 35 when we are at the table in Buffalo for the 2016 draft and that to me is holding a lot of cards! |

Benning should have blown things up and gone for the rebuild his first year. He has drawn it out too much by making maintenance deals like Clendening.
The cap has caught up with the Hawks several times now. Bowman seems to keep it going by cutting bait on older prospects like Clendening and grabbing off the radar guys like Forsling. The returns on Sharp and Leddy have been nearly zero but they still find pieces. |

Florida has a lot of prospects though. They could afford to let some go but it appears Chevy was insisting on Crouse or Matheson or perhaps some others that Dale probably sees as cogs for what is setting up down there to be a contender for years.
That FL team reminds me of the Hawks in 08-09 before they added Hossa. |

With the Kings unwilling to part with prospect Adrian Kempe in a potential deal for the newest Chicago Blackhawks left wing Andrew Ladd, one team manager feels it that was the correct move and offers another prospective deal.
"Rentals, particularly wingers, don't work out. I think the trade they should make is Tanner Pearson and Kempe to Winnipeg for Jacob Trouba."
That's a steep price, but Trouba would be sick!!

i guess its all opinion, I myself dont think he has regressed and again he's only 22. Edler is nearing the downside and its not like he is the final piece for us to make a cup run so why do we entertain that. I'd rather we entertain Hamonic who is 25 and on a better contract if we want to trade Trouba for another D. Also, why do people make such a big deal of his so called contract demands? he has zero leverage.

Good thing Lombardi didn't listen to that on Gaborik... sort of worked out in 14.
Vermette seemed to work out last year too. I think that GM may have no Cups.
Also, why would Kempe and Pearson be enough for Trouba? |

their stats are very close and Jones got to play with a better partner not sure why you think there is such a difference. Trouba actually has more of a mean sreak that i like. again all just opinions

Pete,
What do you think the Maata deal means for negotiations with Trouba? Its along the same lines as Klingberg's. Do you think we can sign Trouba for 6 years at 5 million per? - RFawkes
I think Trouba would take that much if he were in Pitts too. I think there's a premium to play in Winnipeg and that's what his agent wants to cash in on. |

Again, personal choice I guess but Jones has done nothing to distinguish himself to be miles ahead of Trouba, i would say pretty damn even, Trouba scores more goals and has more PMs both things I like in a D-Man.
Jones I think is a little on the soft side, especially for his size.
Back to what matters...... unless blown out of the water by an offer, keep Trouba and 3 picks in first 35 until after the draft lottery!

Trouba is an amazing top 4 defender with a chance to be a top pairing guy but he isn't that guy yet. At least hasn't proven it consistently for long enough. I place Jones' value far ahead of Trouba at least for now. If Edmonton makes that deal and Trouba caps out as a 2nd pairing guy then they got screwed.
I guess a way to look at it is would you pay $7M per for 6+ years for Trouba? If not then he isn't a top 2 guy yet. If you would then I can see why you think the value is fair. I disagree but at least I get your point. |

Cap won't catch the 'Hawks unless it drops. What will catch the 'Hawks is lesser talent YoY. Assuming no career-ending injuries, the first test will be when Hossa retires. You just don't "replace" that talent. How they attempt to back fill the roster spot and how they utilize other players will tell the story. And if they continue to get effective players like TVR and Panarin like they did, they can continue to move picks.
And as far as this trade, the right centre and LW will help Dano immensely. Nothing against the PEG, but I hope you guys have the 30th overall pick come June. |
