I was jk about the bottom part but I'm serious about a big young defensive dman who can skate and move the puck but can also block shots and hit.

That's what the pens need imo

Cough, cough Despres. Yeah, I know he wasn't perfect, but....

See I think we shouldn't be doing this at all. We have the pieces to win a cup now, after Crosby and Malkin we aren't going to have the pieces to win a cup.
If you want to see what life is after Crosby and Malkin look at Winnipeg, a team whos big victory is getting a nice return trading their captain.

The team post Crosby era is a mediocre team at best for decades. We should be all in for the next 5 years, whatever that takes.

- stackthepads

I agree, but sadly this team is playing like a mediocre team WITH Crosby and Malkin, which I cant understand for the life of me. Injuries is part of it, coaching another, asset mismanagement another, so I guess it all adds up to a poorly run organization.

Pass the joint.

Have to be high to think pens have the pieces now. We need a year of building and ideally Maata/Pouliot playing like top 4 guys. You aren't winning a cup with Daley and Maata in top 4 in their current form.

If we traded for bfuglien and Ladd we would be a contender.

It would have taken Sprong and both 2nds to beat chicagos offer for ladd alone. It would take Murray pouliot and 2018 1st to even be in conversation for big buff.

Of course buff isn't even in the market but chose him because their isn't a top 4 dman on the mkt right now. Damages goods like Hamhuis are costing two seconds

marko dano and a 1st for ladd... ye I am happy chicago took the bullet. they would have won the cup anyway... chicago is like the barcelona of hockey. they get what they want, when they want and how they want. meanwhile other teams are still mortal. hate teams like those. am a barcelona fan though and have been since like 6 years old

then they would be both gone after the season and we would still not have won the cup.

Pouliot rust cole for Russell. Drop some serious dead weight off the roster for a player that would come in and make an instant impact and help in thhe playoffs.
- Grinder47

I'm all for moving out some contracts or dead weight but holy smoke this has to be the worst trade proposal in history...give the back of your head a smack from all of us

I thought the team has played well under sullivan when everyone was healthy... or atleast when malkin was here. maybe I am more blind than the referes of the National Hokus pokus League.

Chicago could lose in the first round and then everyone would be saying how top heavy and how many holes they actually had on their roster.

I thought so too, but over on pensburgh they posted something, fancy stats aside, they actually have a worse record under Sully, and the goal differential is worse. They look a lot better but the results have not been there, still lay eggs way too much and have to deal with way to many games where the goalie is made to stand on his head way too much.

they have ye point wise BUT we have played without malkin for some time now... and played horribly cuz of that. before the malkin injury we had more points than mjs tenure.

I still believe that there is a lot of parity in this league despite the strong performances of Los Angeles and Chicago.

We would have won at least a couple more games if Malkin was playing. No question.

How long has it been since we have seen Crosby, Malkin, and Letang all together for a serious stretch of games. I really cannot recall, has there been atleast a half of a season where all three have been together at once in recent history?

You aren't blind, all us Pens fans are just like the team, huge swings of highs and lows.

If healthy we are good enough to come out of the East and if Crosby and Malkin are on their games good enough to beat the team that comes out of the West.

I can agree to that. Some teams just perform better come playoff time.

Is anybody noticing what Washington is on pace for? They are almost at 100 already

I don't necessarily disagree with this but we have had so many post season disappointments that I don't think we actually know what a good post season is like anymore.
Conversely other dynasties like Los Angeles and Chicago pretty much never have horrible letdowns in the post season.
