I read somewhere that Marchand is likely to ask for 7 mil next summer. Does that sound right? |

He is on pace for close to 40 goals this season with no signs of slowing down in the near future. I would say so as thats the market. |

My guess is he will fall shy of this year's production next year, and settle for something in the area of Bergy's contract. Hopefully something under 7. |

What price is too much for Marchand though? Does it hinge on signing Louie?
Around 7 for Berg, Krej, March, and Louie. I think that's what everyone is afraid of.
Personally though to have your 4 best players locked in for the next 5 seasons, it isn't a problem. These are your scorers, playmakers, top PPs, and top PKs. If we have to lose a few guys like Spooner, even if I like him, to keep our undeniably best players, then so be it. It's what the great teams do. Look at Chicago. They've lost Buff, Versteeg, Saad, Leddy, Niemi, the list goes on.
Great teams can't keep all their talent. So they cycle through the developing players for new ones, and pick and choose who they keep. Kind of like Ottawa did between Chara and Redden. They, fortunately for us, just made the wrong move. And I think that is what or problem was too. After winning the cup, we should have moved on from a big name then to keep the future intact. |

Yes thats the suck part of the salary cap. Chicago has been able to make these tough choices and plug in guys from their system because they scout and draft well. They also sign and trade well. Have to give credit to Bowman and co. they're doing a great job.
Chia wanted to keep that 2011 together, but there were some mistakes in that line of thinking along with poor drafting and one really bad trade that like it or not defines his tenure here. Still IMO way better than anything Sinden or O'Connell were able to accomplish during their tenure as GM. |

Now Sinden is senior advisor to the owner. Drafting isnt that much better now in my opinion, outside of a couple bright spots. (pasta, maybe a couple guys from this last draft). Trades have been meh outside of one or two. I havent seen anything yet that gives me confidence we are heading in a good direction. Quite the opposite. |

Carlo, Lauzon, Senyshyn all showing promise at the moment. DeBrusk was too before he got hurt. |

I had my eye on Carlo before the draft and was hoping we would get him. Senyshyn's goal totals look good, we will see if he can translate that into success at the next level (not convinced). Lauzon is a nice surprise, and Debrusk is ok, but when you look at Kyle Connor or Matt Barzal's numbers this year, it leaves a sour taste in my mount.
Zboril has had a poop year. After that, nothing to really write home about. But we will see, just figured the way things were going the franchise could use more young skilled players that are closer to joining the lineup than projects. To be honest, I think the only one of those players that has a shot of making the team next year is Carlo. He is everything they need right now in a shut down D man, and if he has a good camp I think they will keep him around. Lauzon might be in for a tougher spot unless he is unbelievable. Too many moderate D men in the system to justify keeping him around unless he sets the world on fire.
I'm far from convinced, but at the same time patience is really the only course now. Sit back, drink beer and wait it out.

This draft is really going to be the story for me. They have had a full year of scouting in the system, now I want to see what they do with it. |
