On the move:

Larsson
Foligno
McGinn
Franson
Ennis if he's healthy

According to 39

- Sabresfan-365

I predict Weber, Legwand go 100% Johnson only if a team like the Blues feel an injury to their goalie will be long term and they don't trust the back up after that. So maybe 45% chance Johnson goes. I think one of Larsson/Foligno go, probably more so Larsson. I'd put that at 60% and then Franson at 50% I think Murray surprises everyone and doesn't trade McGinn unless he's offered an over payment for it. I think he realizes a lot of people (Eichel included) enjoy McGinn here and will try and take a serious run at signing him. Not saying this is the right or wrong thing to do. Just my prediction.

I cant wait until both teams are good again.

I'm tired of the back and forth about who's tank was tankier.

I want to argue and spew my hatred towards Toronto about game 4 of a playoff game.

- ImThatGuy

The last time TO won a playoff series, it was only best of 3.

Edit. Of course I remember the epic 3goal collapse in the 3rd period of game 7 vs. Boston.

Seriously, very good post.

That's quite a bit no? was thinking/hoping something in the klingberg range.
- Sabresfan-365

It is, but I think they'll do it to avoid a Montreal-Subban situation. If they really believe Rielly is a #1 who is still improving, they don't want to be stuck paying him a ton more in a couple of years.

I would love if they could convince him of less for a 6-8year term, but I really don't want them to go the low-dollar 2-3 year route. Could bite them big time in a few seasons.

No one is saying you're tanking for 1st but you're clearly tanking to get a top pic this year. And you're management is definitely trying to put out a roster that will lose games in order to get the best chance at doing so. If you weren't tanking you wouldn't have brought in so many expiring contracts heading into this year. Your tank started middle of last year.
- bluengold12

They are not trying to win, that is for sure. Personally, I never blamed Buffalo for their rebuild. The Oil was a bit disgraceful for a few years back in the day though.

A full on TANK would mean trading our best players. We don't have many and right now our best players are injured. Looking at the Leafs roster - it's a joke. Here's how I list our players in talent today(not futures - otherwise Rielly would be #1).

1. JVR(long term injury) - our only real 1st line forward
2. Rielly(1st pairing D but still earning his first pairing status)
3. Bozak(injured, possibly long-term
4. Kadri(playing)
5. Komarov(suspended)
6. Gardiner(playing)

The rest are plugs. But when your team is weak to begin with losing two of your top forwards to long-term injury is crushing. I would even say losing Bozak is the biggest blow to the Leafs winning efforts.

Difference is Leafs trading away pending UFA's and RFA's, Buff traded away good players under contract for injured players and then proceeded to trade away both Goalies, 1 of which was playing well.
- Garnie

When the Leafs trade both goalies come Monday I will agree that the Leafs are purposely tanking Like the Sabre did last year. Until then, people have a lot hurt feeling / hate for the Leafs.

yes, that's what most fans around here have had meltdowns every single day about how this team isn't that much better than last year.

It's not hatred and it's not jealousy. It's frustration that when we made the same type of moves last year that Toronto is now, we got told we were a disgrace to the NHL. Yet now that Toronto is doing it, it's just what clubs need to do to get better.

Get off your high freaking horse and shut the F up.

- HonkFortheGoose

That's funny because I saw a lot of buffalo fans trolling leaf blogs about trading low key players and now a blog about it. Yes it reeks of jealously and hatred. Leafs are last place and I'm on a high horse apparently. We're dead last with them on our team or not. Toronto's been bad for years and now that they are a bottom 3 team and guaranteed a good pick its only natural for other fans to complain about the leafs and the one positive they have

The NHL should have the two worst teams play each other to see who gets the top pick. The loser chooses first overall. Imagine a game both teams want to lose. It would be amazing.

You fail to acknowledge that the goalie we kept almost won too many games to prevent us from finishing last.
And getting rid of Kessel and Dion, both under contract, for picks and scrubs is not "honorable", regardless of what goalie you keep/dont keep.

You guys tanked a year too late!

Agreed. You did trade Kessel though who was your best player and Dion who would've been your top pairing D right?

Still regardless Buffalo never traded good players either which I find hilarious. A few years back they traded Vanek for a steal of a trade and Pommer for a pretty decent hockey trade. Last year no solid player was gone except Myers in a hockey trade.

Nobody is tanking for the first overall pick. The rules have changed. In fact, the team that finishes 30th will have 46% chance of picking 4th and only a 20% chance of picking 1st.

Some people are bad at math. To clarify there is an 80% chance that the last place team won't 'win' the lottery.

- Allan Bester

There was an 80% chance last year that the 30th place team would not get the #1 overall selection, and yet, the Toronto fan base and media ripped Buffalo a new A-hole for tanking even though Toronto had the best tanking record after 1/1/2015.

Sabres lose to TO, in the 19th round of the shootout, only after Lerner is found at the concession stand.

Yeah, but regardless if management tanks, players don't. No player wants to lose on purpose so an 18-year-old can come in and take their job. I never really understood the concept of vets truly welcoming in prospects. Yes, it's the job of a guy like Gionta to teach the prospects and be a leader for them, but he's not an idiot, he knows he is grooming the younger players who are going to take his job soon.

Exactly my point. Have to figure there will be some interest in reimer who's numbers are slightly better on a worse team.

True, but at least they last place was guaranteed 2nd overall. There is rougly a 46% chance that the last place team picks 4th.

Two ridiculous things about the end last season for the Leafs.

1. They were actually trying to win. They just sucked on a legendary level.
2. They never should've been that high in the standings to begin with. Lots of lucky wins. In reality at the beginning of last year we thought the Leafs might scratch at a playoff spot. Next thing you know it's December and at one point Leafs were like 3rd in the conference. It made no sense, but it made lots of Leafs fans think we were better than the 8th-11th place that we should've been.

Nobody is forgetting that Edmonton is the king of tanking. Buffalo and Arizona are probably a distant second after last year, and Toronto is rapidly catching up.

Tanking has been done by many, many teams. The issue here is Toronto's hypocrisy in denying what they're doing after they've taken so many other teams to the woodshed for it. What Toronto has done so far this season is literally almost identical to what Buffalo did last year, and yet they call it, "Losing with dignity" while they called us, "An embarrassment to the league"
