How did he lose the Sven deal? How did he lose the Kassian deal... oh that's right... you actually called him the part of the new leadership... so I guess you see it as a loss even though he was a cancer...
Why not wait to see what happens by the TDL passing...
 - boonerbuck
Sven was a good deal. Kassian was a wash deal. Prust never lived up to the billing. |

We had to give up a pick to get Prust.
Didn't say we lost the Baertschi deal, just saying that every deal Benning has made has been critisized.
The Sutter deal didn't make sense.
Vey deal didn't make sense.
Garrison deal didn't make sense.
Forsling deal didn't make sense. - Scooby_Doo
criticized by the twits on HockeyBuzz? The Vey deal was considered a win by most (at the time) and I am lukewarm on it. But you have to take a few gambles given the void of young talent left by Gillis. you are really reaching here. Would do the Sven and Sutter trades again in a heartbeat |

For the record I've seen both play, only on tv and only a few times; my opinion is it's a pretty lateral move. I was never a Shinkaruk fan, for various reasons.
To me they're setting up other things. |

I grew up and went to high school in Med hat, watched Shinkaruk's entire junior career and the Hat Arena, so yeah I know the player pretty well.... and I can safely say he is not some Linden Vey-lite like Granlund is (chrisst we didnt even get the good one!). Dynamic skater, great shot, amazing attitude, leadership up the butt.... for a guy that couldnt crack the flames roster - Crazybagoham
Granlund has played +80 NHL games and isn't a weak link defensively. He has good tools and could use more ice time to develop.
Shinkaruk isn't close to being ready for the NHL in terms of a 200 foot game. He's the one that can't crack the Flames roster.
And Shinkaruk's skating isn't dynamic. It has never been a strength in his game. When I read that it became quite clear the Koolaid is in effect. |

This makes sense to me if there is another deal for drouin or a dman and the other team wanted granlund and not shink if thats the case then absolutely you make the deal to bring the assets you want in the end. But if this is the actual deal with no moving parts its terrible simply for the waivers issue and you think both players are equal which I dont. |

it really isn't that big of a transaction. I don't think either players will be more than depth options. pretty funny/ disturbing how wound up this City is. |

Yeah, likewise. I'm not going to lose my shlt over this deal, mostly because I don't know enough about Granlund's game, but on its own it doesn't seem to make much sense. |

This is where i differ with a few fans on here. I don't place the same value on draft picks that other's seem to.
I see a draft pick as a gamble.
I'm actually on board with JBs pov and i'll take a proven NHL'er over a prospect.
Sometimes you'll get burned, but overall i think you come out on top. - dbot
I agree. If you pull a prospect out of the 2nd round who is at the stage of development that Sven is... then it's a win. You can do better but ideally you've done well with one like him. It is back filling Gillis' generation gap.
Must be tough having to clean up Gillis' scorched earth... JB has to take extra risks to get a young evenly balanced team but it seems JB has to carry the blame of GM's past as his burden.

I don't think any of those are good reasons.
I liked Garrison and hated the trade. - Scooby_Doo
They need to restructure their D. They had Hamhuis Bieksa Garrison and Edler all making 4-5 to 5 mil per year. Pedan will come in at 1 mil per year and install more fear than all of them combined.
Hutton will come in at 1 mil and be a better puck mover than all of them.
Garrison had a hard shot but Weber scored more goals at 1 mil per.
We need to find specialists and replace the dead salary bunch. Save the money for a true number one Dman |

Ek wrote that a team looking to trade for Ladd will have to give up a 1st round pick. I sure hope Benning doesn't read Hockeybuzz. He's dumb enough to do that deal. |

Shinkaruk isn't tall and he's light, he doesn't have an NHL release or a heavy shot, plus he's not a dynamic skater. Obviously their NHL scouts and their AHL coach had input on this.
I like Granlund, he's bigger and heavier plus his development is a year further into it, I just don't see an issue with it...truthfully it's a pretty minor deal and people are freaking out.

Not that I've read, some have the canucks a slight advantage, but Dreger and 1040 are probably leading the fire JB,TL campaign. And of course, the super informative all knowing arm chair GM's |
