I just want to say one thing about the goalies.
If we truly believe that we have a 1A/1B situation with Mason and Neuvirth, why are we all in such a rush to dump one of them for picks?
I believe that next season is when we should look to make a push for the playoffs. Maybe not a Cup contender, but next season, we should realistically be a playoff team. If that is the case, why not hold onto both of them? If one goes down, I'd much rather have the other one to carry us that an AHL call-up/LaBarbera-type. After the season, weigh the better/cheaper player scale and go with who you want (or, if you can manage it, both). I'd rather have a quality backup as insurance next year than dump one this year for a later-round pick. - jmatchett383
Totally agree. Points are too precious to risk losing them due to having poopty and/or inexperienced backups. |

the Flyers are really owned by Comcast.....so as you said being broke will never be a problem. comast is going to own th world one day - nastyflyergirl
Comcast owns the world and doesn't have money to change out their old lines, I refer to them as the Broad Street Bully Lines. |

Flyers next 8 games are against teams who currently are not in the playoffs. If they are going to make a run, now would be the time. - PLindbergh31
They should have been riding that horse already, but you're right, it's now or never time. |

He's getting reputation calls at this point. And it's problematic, whether he gets suspended for these hits or not. - johndewar
he's basically been suspended a few times, by being kicked out of games. they are trying to annoy him into stopping those types of hits he throws. |

He hasn't played a lot of games, but he wasn't even cracking the lineup. - PLindbergh31
part of me thinks Hextall is trying to make decisions on a few guys and doesn't want Weal in to disrupt that process. another part of me thinks he's just not that good. |

As horrible as officiating has been this season, I think it's time to start reviewing plays before throwing a guy out unless it is blatantly obvious and the refs were staring right at the play. I don't want it to get to a point where all penalties are reviewed because that is stupid and a waste of time, but if the refs are considering a match penalty, the head ref should have a few minutes to review the replay to make sure it was warranted. Make the penalty call on the ice, 2 or 5 mins, but take a look before throwing a guy out. I'm sick of the NHL constantly punishing the result rather than the action. |

Bc neuvirth likely would bring back much more than a later round pick. Potentially 2 picks maybe one being a 2nd rounder. Having 2 goalies playing well in their prime is a luxury for the flyers right now. If the flyers can get a return close to what talbot got the Rangers they should pull the trigger. There will be plenty of capable veteran UfA goalies on the market this summer to serve as masons backup next year that are better than labarbera[img][/img] |

I mean there are 4 officials on the ice. Can't they have a logical conversation before one of them decides to throw someone out? |

Well Hextall would know Weal better than almost anyone. He either knew he was getting a good one or had to compromise to dump Vinny. Questions will be answered come next year whether Weal can make the opening night roster. |

But look at what happened with Montreal. They looked like world beaters and, once their starter went down, they went into a tailspin. If the Flyers want to make a push next year, I'd rather have insurance (cheap insurance at that) rather than rely on some AHL/NHL journeyman type. That 2nd rounder may one day play for the Flyers, or Phantoms, or neither.
I bet the Rangers were happy they had Cam Talbot in net last year. They only traded him because he was an upcoming FA who wanted a raise. They would have kept him otherwise.
Edit: By "later round" I meant not first round, i.e. later than 1st. |

You would think so, but all of Gudas' recent stupid moves that he's been thrown out have been questionable. penalties yes, but enough to throw him out? I don't know. |

yeah a third may be the ceiling, but a 4th would not be bad either. The guy is not part of our future and was a nice low cost filler for a year. If we can get any return on a player that probably would not be back next year anyway, its a win.
Plus we have another Russian ready to fill his spot next year, just a lot younger with far greater potential. - flyers2001
Chicago would need to send salary back because of the cap situation they are in. I thought Scuderi was a UFA and was going to suggest him and a higher pick (can I dream for a first? ) for Medvedev but see Scuderi has another year left. Don't know why I thought he was a UFA. |

First, I think Hakstol should get a lot of credit for splitting up G and Jake last night. It was perfect timing for it, with Couts being out. The first line was being ground into the ground and the rest of the team was flat. Voracek injected a lot of energy and puck possession into his new line, Umby looked pretty good even.
Second, I think if they trade Medvedev for a middle round pick we will regret it. I think this guy will be a 35-40 point defenseman if he goes to Chicago, the Caps, Tampa or Detroit and I can hear the winging over it. I'd much rather keep him for another couple of seasons until Sanheim is ready and find a solid stay at home defenseman to pair him with. They can use his skill. Much rather trade Streit, although I think Streit is nearly un tradeable at this time. |

That is not true, but something would have to happen if they are serious about acquiring a top 6 LW as well. If they could take Scuderi and Bickell off their books it would help them so much. Even with them retaining about 1.5 it is as expensive as a buyout but saves the extra year |

I think we may know sooner. Maybe post deadline if they ship anyone out and there is a spot up for grabs. |
