If the Canes had been around for 100 years, we might be as engrained as to be one of those money making (with no bearing on how the team fares on the ice) teams. Making money isn't the measure of success that you seem to think it is. Not every hockey town is fortunate enough to be centered among hundreds of thousands of devoted hockey fans - it takes time to get there.

I'm not sure how the blog was twisted to mean I was trying to make the draft process favor the team I cover. Sure, I'm a fan too, but if the Hurricanes were 30th every year, I'd be saying the same thing.

It's still a terrible idea you've come up.

How do you punish tanking without punishing truly bad teams trying to get better? Are you suggesting the players are not giving 100% after the deadline? I don't think GM's intentionally tanking is as big a deal as you make it out to be.

Leaf fans are just sick and tired of media, mostly in Toronto, who act as if they can say and write WHATEVER they want to abuse the fan base here. Leaf fans and the money they pump into the pockets of these people are totally taken for granted. Call in to whatever sports talk show and the hosts mock, insult people. Bloggers calling Leaf fans morons, idiots, losers etc etc. The NHL awards the fanbase in Toronto for it's 100th anniversary by giving the all star game to Chicago, the draft to LA and the Winter Classic to St Louis. 100 years of devotion to the NHL and Toronto gets NOTHING. Of course, a local writer, Howard Berger, then writes about how whiney Leaf fans are because they're complaining. We're sick and tired of it. So, forgive me for being overly sensitive right now. I did overreact to your blog. [url]

Nope. It applies to Buffalo, Arizona and Toronto as well.
