I'm pretty sure you can't put Hamhuis on waivers, as I'm sure part of his NTC also addresses issues such as that. Not to mention, the organization would look like it's a Mickey Mouse operation. - Zogg
Hey Z, how ya doing?
I'm torn, I like the idea of the team competing for a playoff spot, but if they could fall a little further and end up with a top 5 pick, that could be great for the franchise. Either way, I am looking forward to the tdl and draft as much as the post season.

They re-called Yannick Weber for tonight. We might need him after all. - Marwood
Does this mean your onboard with tanking? |

His contract is front loaded its perfect for the sens who have an internal budget. Love the deal for the sens. - mauryballstein
The cap hit is always the same. Now their #3 d-man is making more than Karlsson. They are in a position where keeping Hoffman, Ceci, Weircoch, Stone becomes impossible long-term. |

No need to put him on waivers. Let him play his three months and say bye. Benning would never do that so its not worth mentioning unless his game turns to total crap in the next two weeks.
Not gonna happen |

Bennings as never come out and said he wants to re-sign him , he has always said Dan is an important part of the team , we will reevaluate at the end of the year.
Quite frankly I would be very surprised if Benning did give him a new contract - VANTEL
I wouldn't be surprised either way. |

I like seeing the kids compete. wouldn't be the end of the world if the team made the playoffs, but hope, regardless, that Vrbata and a couple more pending ufa's are traded.
i'm just happy to be here... - hillbillydeluxe
I stay on board with I want a high draft pick. Either way. I understand people not wanting to tank and I understand people wanting to. |

I'm much more agreeable after a jazz as well. |

I don't believe in tanking. I also believe that we are not good enough for the playoffs. Its a matter of pride. I hate losing at anything. Its in my blood. Losing is one of the worst feelings. |

I understand them to the point of "I don't like seeing my team lose." but I don't understand the fact that they don't seem to udnerstand(or care) that we will never win the cup like this. Unless we win the player lottery like getting a perry 26th and getzlaf 19th. Or something to that effect |

Detroit has been a force for the last 25 years till more recently. They werent a team that won player lotteries. Its not truly necessary.
Then theres edmonton who wins it every year and they still suck.
People we should not hang our success on high draft picks, it's not an accurate measure
Of course Id love to have a getzlaf...but guys like that are so incredibly rare too. |

They will, also, never win if they punish players for not waiving their contract negotiated by both parties in good faith. |

Yzerman was a top-5 pick and arguably the MVP of that team for 15 years. I agree that drafting and developing is important no matter where you pick but I think the amount of HOF'ers picked in the top 5-10 speaks for itself. |

Yes I would. - Retinalz[B]A true team player would waive the final year of his NTC if the team wasn't going to make the playoffs(or had a snowballs chance in hell like we do) if it meant a guaranteed contract back with that team in the off season(one he reportedly wants to resign with). Otherwise he is just being selfish(which he has every right to do), but I am a vindictive b4st4rd and would put him on waivers after TDL and let w/e team wants him for the rest of the season have him. Or he can do to the other side of the continent to play.
 God bless you |

Ticks me off that Weber was called up unless it is just not to waste a young player in the press box. |

Its a back to back. You never want to play a goalie back to back if you dont have to. Why risk an injury when your back-up (Miller) is capable enough. I wouldnt play Markstrom tonight either |

Just bad luck. I would be worried if his career was plagued with injuries, but he seems a pretty steady guy. |

Don't forget that they had amazing scouts in a different era getting Zetterberg and Datsuik in late rounds. Those finds are harder and harder do to the way we can now use the internet. They also had several high end draft picks as well as threw money at players for years. When you offer someone like Brett Hull upwards of 8millions and other teams are only able to afford 3-4mil you tend to get your guy. Weren't they at like 80mil cap hit at the end of the 90's? |

Dont believe there was a cap at that point. Wasnt it like 04 it came in? Someone know?
True they did have a lot of UFAs. Point was though you dont need a #1 overall to succeed. Glad you agree |

Sure, but does not mean team success either. More often than not it doesnt. |
