This is from Bob MacKenzie today:

the Canucks apparently haven’t, as of today, received a single call, not one, from another team inquiring about Hamhuis’s availability.

Still time though right?

NO don't go for it!!!!!!

don't you have work to do in the leaf thread?

- A_SteamingLombardi

No, I retired from working with Children.

Erhhoff is a temp replacement for Edler BUT if he could gain even 50% of his power play magic with Hank =

Prospect is pushing it unless its a late round D like Kevin Gravel. Then he probably only gonna replace Pedan's spot when Pedan is brought up. It would have to be to fill a need in the AHL.

I keep hearing from people like Freidman and Lebrun , interested parties are Caps Pens Kings and Stars

Yeah, but surely you have to weigh up Eastern bias no?

Don't believe those guys, they are from Ontario

I mean the leafs will be unloading all of there UFAs for anything they can get. Thats why we should be actively tyring to unload what we have now before other teams beat us to it.

I thought they didnt get enough for dion and i hate the guy. I would have taken him on the canucks and paired him with hamhuis and we would have had a legit 2nd pairing.

- mauryballstein

A second round pick and a good prospect in lindberg seems like overpayment to me. he's a 3-4 d-man with an absurd contract of 7 mil for next 4 years. They now have 20 mil in cap space and another pick and prospect. Big win, Cowen might even pan out who knows

Vrbata had 30 last year and on pace for 20 this year. He will get what the market dictates we should have tried dealing him montreal before they poop the bed now that ship has basically sailed.

Hamhuis will get at least a 1st. Players werent as good as him and getting more than that last season. I dont tthink he has missed a step, he was playing weber most of the year and the guy isnt even in the league anymore. You can put hamhuis on any pairing and he will be fine. Not to mention he is the best dman there is who is available.

- mauryballstein

A few figures to consider. Vrbata is on pace to finish the season w 17 goals, 34 points and a horrific -37. This also ignores the way he is trending ie 1 goal in 15 games. He has been demoted to the 4th line on a non-playoff team. I'm not sure I see the value. I certainly hope you are right about Hamhuis but I fear his value is similar to Bieksas.

Speaking of Vey-Etem, I was hoping with the kid line being reunited that Vrbata would join those two. They have been playing well with Burrows but wouldn't mind getting someone with a good shot to try and finish their chances

Pearson/Vey/Toffoli were crazy good together in the AHL. 2/3 of that together would be nice. Etem would fit in as a poor mans Toffoli. I could live with that line

Ehrhoff was placed on waivers today.... think JB will pick him up, especially with Edler out now for a while?
- GloveHandStrong

He'd certainly help our chances of hittign rock bottom.

Sure why the hell not.

I think they might play a total perimeter game if put together...

When Vrbata was put with Sutter, I was expecting Burrows to play the other wing and have Dorsett with Etem and Vey...

I think WD is back for one more season and then will be cut loose. maybe he can't be expected to make chicken salad out of chicken.... but when stuff isn't working in games, I expect to see some changes on the fly.

Didn't mean to go off on WD, I just don't understand some of his decisions. I do like him behind the bench though, a live wire that can't stand still.

Erhhoff is a temp replacement for Edler BUT if he could gain even 50% of his power play magic with Hank = making the POs and being eliminated in 5 games and missing out on a high draft pick and keeping expiring UFA contracts instead of trading them for picks.

- Beatle_john

Fixed

Picking up Ehrhoff means putting back the rebuild 2 or 3 years.

Vey and Etem haven't been shy to get into board play, they have been a pleasant surprise. I just thought getting a little more finish would help the confidence a bit more, not that they are struggling

If WD isnt going to be around long, it'll be this year. No way they let Green walk and WD go the following year

Hammer has every right not to waive and Canucks have every right to say no thanks at the end of the year.

I know if a player says no thanks I don't want to move to help the team , I say good luck to your career once the contract expires.

- VANTEL

What a load of sh!t. Where in the contract or in the NTC, does it say you must waive your clause to help the team in the future?
Sorry man, but I hate that crap that, before your contract (signed in good faith) ends, you should rip it up and get traded. He owes the team squat once the contract ends.

I agree. If a player has a ntc and doesn't want to waive, end of story no hard feelings. Benning can ask but if he says no, he has to move on and let it go. Hammer has every right to decline, he signed the contract.

Wouldn't mind being proven wrong. I have noticed Vey and Etem both at times shying away from some of the contact. They have both been better though, but I think they have to make a real effort to get to those areas.

Vrbata was a disappointment early in last nights game, thought he started playing a bit better after getting high sticked and pi$$ed off, especially later in the game.

I just want to see WD be a bit more flexible with his lines in games, more so when we aren't scoring or doing much.

I'd like to see Etem put on a little weight, he has the speed, just want to see him a bit more physical.

Sutter doesn't like him. He's been a healthy scratch for a while now. Kings have a ton of skillful forwards to come up. I would love to get Pearson to play with vey.

If you're hesitant to dive into the full 20 minutes of Beth Bartkowski's TSN1040 interview, Josh Cooper IDs the high points in this piece:

I wonder if she'll get an encore tonight, or if one of the other moms will try to get in on the action?

It is a big (frank)ing deal or Hammer. The guy took atleast 500k preseason paycut to get that NTC. His contract was a great value when he signed. Now the team wants to profit from him losing money, he has every right to say no. That being said, it must be awkward coming back to the rink day after day after you refuse knowing full well the team management and coaching staff does not want you there anymore.
But don't for even 1 second think that players will do anything for the team. They are for themselves as we have seen with multiple lockouts.

- Linden_4_Capt

Depending on how Hammer handles it, after TDL if he doesn't waive I would put him on Waivers and let w/e team that wants him take him. But this depends on why he doesn't waive/if he even gets asked. I would honestly say to him "Look, we plan to resign you in the off season. We aren't making the playoffs this year. Will you please waive to be traded and we will sign you back, should you want to resign with us?"

There is a reason Sutter doesn't like him. I'd prefer draft picks to Pearson. A bit more detail on the Hamhuis situation
