what is the realistic trade value of Dan Hamhuis?
Alex Edler? (when is he back?) - AlfieisKing
Tough to say for Hamhuis as he controls things with his NTC. If he's willing to open it up to a few teams, I could see Benning getting a late first from a team like LA, Dallas, or Washington that will likely make a deep playoff run. Otherwise, a 2nd and a prospect.
Edler is on a decent contract with term, so likely a 1st and a prospect.

Yes, that's what I am saying. It is an all or nothing thing. - nucks_94
My point being, why the early starts in only Vancouver? Why not Calgary, Edmonton, LA, San Jose, Anaheim, Dallas, Arizona....... |

You're probably not getting Hamhuis or Edler now that you have Phaneuf, the better question is what the f_ck was Ottawa thinking adding him to their roster? |

our home record has been disappointing.
anyone noticed those quiet stretches last night during play? someone could have sneezed at one end of the rink and got a "bless you" from the other. |

They started early when they played on Saturday in San Jose back in January. The Leafs play 24 times on Saturday night this season and every single game is at 7PM Eastern.
EDIT: Looking at their schedule, they have 3 games this year on Saturdays in cities outside of the eastern time zone (St Louis, San Jose, and Vancouver) and all the games started at 7 EST. It's just the way it goes... Biggest fan base = biggest tv ratings = more money = primetime game on the east coast |

I really like that deal for Ottawa. Stabilizes their top 4. His contract is front loaded and ottawa doesnt spend to the cap so the cap hit doesnt matter. They got a top 4 dman for a 2nd rounder, prospect and dumped some contracts.
Made sense for toronto cus got out from under a long term deal so theyll have more cash after next season when those ottawa contracts are off the books if they cant unload them or buy them out. |

Make sense and Phaneuf should not be in the same sentence unless does not is also included. |

Sorry, agree to disagree, my thoughts; Phaneuf is not a top 4 defense on any team in the NHL. If he was I would assume that he would have been chosen over Hamhuis or Subban in the last Olympics. In fact he never represented Canada in any Olympics.
His contract for what he provides is atrocious, Ottawa are on the hook until 21-22 at 7 mil a year and he's 30 now.
Zetterbury blew past him last night, who's 5 years older, there's a reason Phaneuf is called a pilon for a very good reason. |

contract isnt 7 mill a year the cap hit is. i think he is top 4. i dont think he is anything special but to get a top 4 dman for nothing plus dumping your own cap problems isnt too bad for me. Ottawa plays their top 2 more than anyone else in the league so if he comes in and plays 2nd unit PP and PK and allows Karlson to not play 30 a night its a win.
time will tell. im hoping it gets the sens in the playoffs though. they are probably canadas only shot |

Apparently the NHL doesnt care about us Westcoasters who sometimes get home from work at 6 and are only able to catch the last 10 minutes of the 3rd when our team travels, but Leaf fans cant stay up to midnight on a Saturday... |

West coast, weekday road games for the Leafs start later don't they?
I am not saying I like the early start for the Saturday game, but with the travel and different start times from day to day, it can't be a significant advantage for the Leafs on the road... blame Leaf fans and the NHL catering to one segment more than another. |

No, the advantage I think is for West coast teams as playing earlier is probably easier than playing later. I just agree that its an annoyance that the league should implement fairly. The Rangers frequently play matinee games, so it doesnt bother me when the Canucks play at 9AM over there. If the Canucks had more 4PM starts on the weekends, I would be perfectly fine with it |

You can view the money aspect anyway you want, the Sens are penalized 7mil a year for a pilon. Like how I view it as penalized..
You're entitled to your belief that Dion Pilon is a great, I don't see it, and the figures below are atrocious, I'd rather Y. Weber or Biega
2016-17 30 $6,500,000 $1,000,000 - $7,000,000
2017-18 31 $6,000,000 $1,000,000 - $7,000,000
2018-19 32 $5,500,000 $1,000,000 - $7,000,000
2019-20 33 $5,500,000 $1,000,000 - $7,000,000
2020-21 34 $3,000,000 $2,500,000 - $7,000,000

I did stats for the Ottawa/Detroit game last night, and Phaneuf did have a terrible pylon moment that led to a Red Wings goal. I think he can be a useful defenceman, but that play wasn't a good look at all.
Anyway—new blog with Canuck content, looking at last night's game, Alex Friesen, and the Hamhuis situation...
