Motivation wise, a coach is not that important at the NHL level. But he still has to manage the game. And Therrien has been weird but excellent at it for most of his time in Montreal(this time). This season, for some strange reason, he's gone back to over-trusting his vets and not going with what he sees on the ice. Tonight was a good examples of line juggling we saw when he first came back. Players that played got the bump in ice time, not just the players MT likes.

Really? He puts Weise on the 4th after 2 shifts and plays Andrighetto on the 1st instead and you come out with that?
Good timing!

Maybe you should read prior posts or even the end of that one where I give Therrien props for tonight... ???

I just don't see how MT changed his way of doing things.
Actually that's not true. For the 1st two months of the season he didn't change his lines once. He started when Gally got injured.

When desharnais snuck his way back into the top 6? I was surprised though that he put Galchenyuk and Gallagher back with Pleks. That at least seems to be paying some dividends. Anyways they won 3 in a row and that matters after the nonsense. He gets some credit for that.

The second part of this I agree with 100%. 2 years ago, when DD and Patches were sucking at the start of the year, they got benched. They've sucked all year and haven't been benched. I do not believe that MT needs to be let go. I think Pacioretty is speaking truthfully when he says the guys in the room still believe in him. I also think a big part of the team not having as much success this year as they did before is that Therrien has been too lenient with some of his players. Is part of that problem not having personnel to dish out said consequences? Absolutely! But at some point, when stuck in such a brutal losing streak, he has to say (frank) it and bench who needs to get benched regardless of which fourth line plug gets too many minutes.

Pax line is the #1 line, whether DD or Plek play center. They get the most icetime , and play against the other team' top paring dmen.
That allows the second line more chances to produce, because they play the 2nd pairing, especially when they wake the (frank) up like they have the past few games.

You should be used to this by now...

I said not as important. The managerial parts of it are way more important than motivational at this level. How motivational do you think Hitchcock and Jacques Martin are? They've both had nice long careers. Players at this level know what on the line. Having a motivator can help. Having someone who properly manages a game is more important to me.

Kev, we agree to disagree.

And for you to throw JM into this, makes me want to puke..

DD has 5 points in 33 games.

I don't want to be used to this.

Bergevin will finally make a trade this week.

Time to find somebody to replace Flynn in the lineup.

Here's an incredible stat that I'm posting everywhere:

Among all players in the NHL that have received over 100 minutes of ice time on the power play this season, Desharnais ranks 184th out of 189. He hasn't produced a PP point since late November.

That's an alarming stat. Seems almost impossible.

All it takes is two good games.

BTW, I forgot how much I despise Ryan Callahan.
