You sure? I thought Subban and Suter were both making around 8 or 9 too. What's Doughty making?

I know JB said he wants D at the draft but I sure wouldn't mind big Logan Brown

AAV vs yearly breakdown might be causing some discrepancy.
- dbot

That's fair. I still think top two guys on d pairs usually are making between 6-9... but maybe it's more like 5-8. Either way, Edler's contract is not bad. The salaries of these types of players is definetly going up all the time. As 7 mil is becoming more and more common for d men.

What's the last number one defenceman that made it to free agency? Never happens anymore. There is a league wide shortage on differance making defenceman. We will not get one in free agency. It's draft or trade. And if we trade it's a massive overpayment. No thanks...I'd rather draft my own.

I wouldnt mind Julien Gauthier, apparently been a gym rat since 10 years old, nobody would push him around.

Probably a top 10 pick. I was hoping we picked up another pick around 20

I hope not...this draft is loaded with potential first line forwards. I'd be happy with Matthews, The Finns, Tkachuck, McLeod or even Nylander. He is quite a bit bigger than his smurf brother. We can grab a D with our second 1st rounder (Hamhuis trade) and our high 2nd round pick

Id have zero problem with dubios at 7 too

Fabbro is now rated between 12-20, hes the defenseman i really want in the draft, if we had another pick pick between there id have no problem taking a forward with the top ten pick

Bob essentially says Juolevi/Chychrun are the best two but nothing is set. I Still think Chychrun still has the overall skillset that is much better, but maybe he doesn't have the mental side for the big stage, time will tell.

I watch him play all the time, he's not that great. But then i'm not a scout.

No, not yet at least. Jost is the guy to watch, a bit small but man does he stand out.

Or maybe the shock wave will be something similar to what was felt when Bieksa left?

I look at Edler's +/- over the years and I'm not so sure his contributions would be a crushing loss to the defensive scheme.

My Kingdom for a #1 with consistency!

'I would think edler would be better in 2nd pairing honestly. If we didnt have edler whoever moved up would likely be worse for plus minus.

Again as Ive said before, while the lineup could certianly improve, the problem really isnt the lineup. Every D we have would improve with a better D plan. Notice all of them suck?

thats vague....how can you agree to go a different way when you have no idea what that plan is? If its better then sure. Edler leaves shoes to fill.

What do you have in mind?

He's exciting for sure. I will still go D though unless we get another #1.

I suggested a different direction last season....a different coach that knows what the F&CK theyre doing on D.

But some wont be onboard since it shuts down their daily online trade idea fun

As a poster said earlie if you trade Edler for a first round pick and a prospect plus Edlers replacement even if it is just Hamhuis, is better than Edler

I think he will be very good player, small though but I see him as that playoff leader/captain type. but there is probably 8-10 forwards id take before him.

Couldnt agree more now is the time to sell high on him that prospect would hopefully be a defensemen and in 2-3 years step in to the role edler currently plays.
