Id say Yandle is better then Edler, not but much but still is, and if we can get a pick and prospect for Edler and Yandle for only cap space itd be so worth it |

I could get with that, I'd even buy a Yandle retro skate jersey.
I don't think Yandle is better than Edler, but I think Yandle + 1st + prospect is better than Edler.
Overpay Yandle on 2-3 year deal and ditch him at deadline when his contract is up for another pick. Asset management. |

Canucks need to find his replacement . The sooner the better. - VANTEL
Problem is I don't think you can draft a replacement for Edler. He's a good Dman I'm not saying he's not a good player so it would be interesting what you could get from a trade.
I think you need to find a better option by trade or bid hard for a true #1 during FA. And yes it's going to cost the canucks more than $5m to find consistency, skill, and experience but it would be so nice to have that true team quarterback running the show back there.
Let me put it this way, I would rather pay $2.8m more for a Shea Weber than save the salary on an Edler. |

He is not better.
I hate to admit Scooby having a great idea. , but this is probably best case scenario.
Trade Hamhuis at TDL for a first and a pick. Bring him back in the offseason for something like 3x3 .
Trade Edler at the draft. Three first round picks would be excellent.
Draft Juolevi. If you could pick up a second pairing RHD
You can have a stop gap D . Draft high again , and maybe hope for a trade.
Hamhuis Tanev
Tryamkin Polak
Juolevi Hutton
Biega Pedan.

Yes it is the first and the prospect you get along with the replacement that would be better than Edler.

I think many will be shocked how bad we look without him though. kinda like how much the loss of salo STILL hurts us. - SMBDragon
Or maybe the shock wave will be something similar to what was felt when Bieksa left?
I look at Edler's +/- over the years and I'm not so sure his contributions would be a crushing loss to the defensive scheme.

You just took the fun out of my fun fact...
D Keith is #20 on the NHL Salary List for defenseman. Seabrook is #13. Only one Dman making $9m, no Dman making $8m, and six making $7m plus.
The only outliers are the overly paid defenseman on the canucks. - bloatedmosquito
You sure? I thought Subban and Suter were both making around 8 or 9 too. What's Doughty making? |

AAV vs yearly breakdown might be causing some discrepancy. |

What's the last number one defenceman that made it to free agency? Never happens anymore. There is a league wide shortage on differance making defenceman. We will not get one in free agency. It's draft or trade. And if we trade it's a massive overpayment. No thanks...I'd rather draft my own. |

Bob essentially says Juolevi/Chychrun are the best two but nothing is set. I Still think Chychrun still has the overall skillset that is much better, but maybe he doesn't have the mental side for the big stage, time will tell. |
