So, now what for the Jets? They gonna keep all three of Buff, Trouba and Myers? I would tend to doubt it.

Was wondering this, and thought, why not?

Myers' cap hit seems reasonable, Buf isn't goin' anywhere now, Trouba is still developing and I don't think they are in a rush to trade him, before they really know what they have, unless it is a big return...

yeah, move Stuart too and save. Jets could sign a cheap ufa, prospects on elc's... I have no idea who is in their systemn

always hear about the Jets having their own internal cap.

Weak cdn $ is going to impact the cap. I hope JB shows some patience in signing ufa's, he might be able to take advantage of our cap space.

If the Canucks aren't selling out their games, other Canadian clubs must be feeling it too. No Canadian teams in the playoffs, and playoffs aren't even guaranteed sell outs in some US markets, it could get ugly.

She said waiving Hammer is the right thing to do...

Maybe she meant having him waive his ntc, but it didn't come across like that.

I think he would waive and sign back here in the summer. It's a win win for him and more importantly, us.

This doesn't look very ambiguous to me:

"I think I figured out a carrot that might convince him to waive his no-trade clause!"

Yeah, if Hamhuis wants to stay in Vancouver and Benning intends on resigning him, they could work out a contract now, trade him to a contender and then sign that contract on July 1st.

The flip side to that is, if Benning is not going to be re-signing him maybe Hamhuis waives to go to a contender anyways. He won't be in Vancouver next year anyways so at least he gets a shot at the cup.

I was about to reply to Scooby,

One of the themes of the blog was Hamhuis waiving his ntc, it didn't suggest the team waiving Hamhuis.

I think CS's post got auto corrected and twisted up or something.

Maybe that bodes well for my sudden sense of optimism that waiving Hammer is the right thing to do?

It's under duress, believe me. After watching the complete lack of scoring punch in the last two games, I can't see how this team will be able to climb out of the hole it just dug itself.

I am feelin' pretty good about the fact that I predicted that Buff would re-sign with the Jets in my Bleacher Report story. Maybe that bodes well for my sudden sense of optimism that waiving Hammer is the right thing to do?

No need to explain. We don't judge. We are all Canucks.
Now all we need is a bidding war and the KB has a big enough voice and cons Ducks to ship their 1st (not lottery protected) and Vatanen.
Then Ducks miss the playoffs and win the lottery. Where is the prayer emoticon

I think if JB is patient, he will see opportunity with some ufa's that had priced themselves out of the market, like Franson last summer.

Also, teams that had long term plans based on the usual cap increases might want to unload some salary or make other moves that JB might be able to benefit from.

Buying UFAs is not going to help. This team is a minimum of 3 years away from anything meaningful. Even if we had the first 5 picks in this year's draft we're still 3 years away from anything meaningful. Start focusing on the 2020 season and beyond when you look at this roster.

It sounds possible but then the fact they haven't been able to win more than 2 in a row all season makes it sound unrealistic.

Let's see, 30 games, need 20 wins.

Win 2, lose 1, win 2, lose 1, win 2, lose 1... Do you see the pattern here?

My hope is we would have rebounded by then, but I don't think the organization will be content to sit back and rebuild without having an eye for the playoffs.

JB is going to shop for some size and skill to replace Vrbata in the top 6, and a second pairing dman to replace Hamhuis. I'm curious to see what happens.

I think I used the word, realistic, somewhere in my post.

as soon as I start watching a game, I am hoping they win. can't watch and hope they lose.

trying to be realisitc. would be happy to watch some playoff games. and if they make the playoffs from where they stand right now, I'll be going out and buying Canuck car flags and gear.

Yeah, I don't think they have a chance at making the playoffs either, I just like to argue

I wonder if Benning will sing Loui Eriksson this summer to play with the twins. It would make sense especially if Hansen gets moved.
