Ya, i don't know about that, here's their current defense, keep in my they don't have much depth and/or blue-chip D prospects.
Rielly-Hunwick
Gardiner-Cowen
Corrado-Percy
And we thought we had a long road ahead of us in regards to rebuilding our D
Even if Nylander, Marner and their 1st this year turn into 80-90pt players their D and lack of any solid goal tending will ensure they remain in the basement for years to come. Total EDM style rebuild - Whiskey-Tango
Not that it matters but I think Cowen is bought out for $625,000 this summer

How so, they have one top 4 Dman, where do they find the other 3?
No goal tending and no assets to move outside of the untouchables.
Christ, even if they get Stamkos they would remain a basement team. |

I look at their D and yes it is scary. Do I think they have that D this summer? absolutely not. I don't think the leafs are done by a long shot.

But that is precisely the dilemma, they are currently up against the cap, they have very few assets that could warrant a top 4 dman in return and theres nothing in the way of the UFA pool....so how exactly to they go about shoring up their absence of a defense and a goalie pool?
EDM all over again. |

Do you think they may trade some players not to be up against the cap? |

If they have cap space and make a trade along with their top draft pick.
Trade for Shattenkirk . Draft Chychrun pick up UFA
Reilly Shattenkirk
Yandle Polak
Chychrun Gardiner
Cowen Marincin |

Canucks should be doing it also now. IMO - VANTEL
I think it depends, if youre going after Stamkos you shouldnt strip it completely down. It would be a waste of time and money getting an elite scorer in his prime with a few established NHLers around him. If they plan to do it patiently, then yes bring it down and collect younger assets. |

Even if they do, which they surely will, what's Toronto going to do?
Offer Yandle a 7X7? |

No I don't think so. The plan is to be bad again next year and get another high pick I'd say |

They aren't and shouldn't be in a rush to get a top 4 D man this summer. They will clear up 10 mill in the 2017 summer so right now, no point in rushing. As far as assets, they have more than you think. Look at their AHL team right now. Lupul, JVR, Komarov are all expendable IMO. |

I think you are bang on with this assumption. Tank this year and next. Go big in the summer of 2017. |

Yeah. I'd say that's the plan. I don't think Nylander, Marner, Kapanen, Brown or Co will play in the NHL next year. It'd be the same kind of idea with plugs. Then the following year will probably see the star to youth being injected in the line up |

No reason to bring up the kids when they are dominating and finding success in the AHL. Embrace the tank and stock the cupboards. Again, hate to say it but the leafs fans can go one more year since they have already gone this long. |

Actually Leafs should draft Laine with the second overall pick.
It could be a nice line to watch

That would get a laugh on the other end
This Nwon trade is a pretty solid trade. Really for both clubs. Dion is a 3/4 being paid Luke a #1. But the sens dump a few contracts. A yr from now Toronto is completely free, good deal.
Leafs should much like Vancouver, forget about big money ufas and trades and stay the coarse.

I think Marner and Nylander make team next yr.
And aside from picking #1, the leafs are drafting nylander imo. |

I'd say on of the Finns or Tkachuk and then maybe a D (unless a forward falls) with Pittsburgh's pick. |

Agreed, and I won't forget. It doesn't look like any other team in the East wants to make it in though. |
